PROJECT HIGHLIGHT - Vertical Crane was contracted to provide crane support and transport for the 16th Ave and 29th St pedestrian overpass. Our team provided a unique and detailed plan to move and install the 160,000 lbs structure with keeping the traffic impact as minimal as possible. Special thanks to our Operations Manager Brad Taylor for spearheading this exciting project. Brad left no detail untouched from inception of the first sketch’s to project completion.

Had the privilege of studying the engineering design this week. Pretty powerful how the engineers did the design because the base plates were pinned in both directions, complex bracing system to reduce forces, moment frames in both directions to reduce sway and long span girders to reduce vibrations and noises. I always enjoy relaxing with a cup of tea, while my classical jazz is playing and reading over articles from AISC. On Chicago’s north side, a new flyover bridge is the solution to years of bottlenecks and delays at a critical elevated rail interchange--and steel was the perfect material to make it happen! In completing the Red-Purple Bypass (RPB), the project team behind the Chicago Transit Authority’s Red and Purple Modernization Project overcame tight urban spaces and strict displacement tolerances. The result? A new single flyover track that carries the northbound Brown Line over the four mainline tracks, increasing the speed and efficiency of the other trains using the interchange. Subdivisions and VicRoads This week we are sharing an interesting insight into obtaining statement of compliance for a subdivision project which required a new road construction as conditioned by VicRoads on a planning permit. The development required a new road intersection upgrade which involved many different surveying aspects, including drone footage of the as-built intersection prior to the final compliance being issued. It is common for VicRoads to request as-built information for any works required within their road reserve relating to a subdivision project, so it is important to understand their requirements and plan to capture this data ahead of time to ensure a fast conclusion to any outstanding permit conditions. We are seeing more and more that the subdivision process is expanding to include asset recording and other works-as-executed information by relevant authorities, so it pays to have all tools at your disposal to capture this information.

I was at Swan Hunter in 1989. I saw tumbleweed, and empty workshops, but at the same time, a brand new 'Sir Eric Sharp' newbuild waiting to be delivered. The contrast was stark. The decline was inevitable when Japan, then Korean yards benefited from a number of factors, including, and I think we need to remember this, UK help. A&P and Scott Lithgow advised Hyundai on shipyard layout, providing ship designs, production methods, and personnel to train the South Korea shipyard workers. Senior management in Scott Lithgow in defence saying that if they did not do it someone else would, and they knowingly were contributing to their own UK shipyard demise. The recent UK NSO National Shipbuilding Strategy has an ambitious plan for UK shipbuilding and skills gaps, but for that, it needs a 30 year forward order book, which will primarily be defence work, to gain momentum, confidence and avoid 'the 'boom and bust' of grass getting a foothold, and workers and skills getting other jobs elsewhere. The commercial shipbuilding orderbook targets are as yet, not market assessed. These comments from Michael Grey are food for thought on the realities of that. It may be too late for some ship types to ever be built in UK again.

Simple questions? 1.Is this the normal way to construct a rail line with people at high risk ? 2.How about noise and vibration ? 3.Fly rocks Risks 4.The team torquing whilst on a live equipment 5.whats the procedure in terms of communication 6.is this a latest technology or old kind of constructing a rail line.
