This week, our Offshore Renewables Director, Nigel Robinson, spoke with Rob Flett on Radio Orkney about the upcoming trials of the PALM Charger. Nigel shared his vision: "Once the trials are complete, we aim to reach a point where potential customers recognise the PALM Charger as a great idea and are eager to collaborate with us to overcome the final hurdles and bring this innovation to reality." The PALM Charger is designed to provide offshore recharging points for electrically powered marine vessels. This technology extends operational capabilities by overcoming the range limitations of current vessels. Key Details: 🚀 Trials Start: September in Orkney 🚀 Funded By: Innovate UK 🚀 Essential Partners: EMEC: European Marine Energy Centre and Leask Marine Ltd 🚀 Next Steps: A successful trial will lead to a commercial prototype ready for a 2025 pilot, initially targeting Offshore Wind projects and expanding to fisheries, aquaculture, ferries, and leisure sectors. 🎧 Listen to the interview (link in comments). #offshorerenewables #offshorewind #innovation

Independent Energy New Zealand (IENZ) has been working throughout 2024 with Invercargill Airport on a variety of projects to improve the energy efficiency of its buildings and plan for the future of flight. Invercargill is a rapidly growing destination for air travel and the Airport is currently planning the expansion of services to meet this demand. Palmerston North based IENZ were chosen by the Airport to assist in their energy management objectives due to their wide range of skills and access to specialist knowledge from partners Energenze and TBS Services. Projects have ranged from making the existing terminal more efficient, planning the upgrade of infrastructure to support growth and future proofing the airport for the expected move to hydrogen/ electric or biofuels based flight. To date over $200,000 in savings has been identified. “We look forward to benefitting from our ongoing collaboration with IENZ as our services change and grow” Julie Jack – Commercial and Business Development Manager.

Thank you to Flotation Energy and Cobra Infraestructuras Hidráulicas for taking such good care of the Cork crew - what a great experience, a good few takeaways to reflect on and ponder on. The future is absolutely green energy and both fixed and floating are the future, along with solar and wave. The benefits to us as a country and for all our communities is just incredible but we still have work to do to get to where we need to get to but Ireland has the expertise, the waters and more importantly the people. Just by way of information Kincardine is a floating windfarm with just 5 turbines 13.5 km from the shoreline all connected to he grid producing electricity to 50k homes roughly so imagine what we could do. Unfortunately only one was spinning due to maintenance (they have to do this in the summer due to weather) - we were lucky to get out, the trip after us was cancelled. It just shows you people who work in the maritime world and go to sea are to be commmended it’s not an easy task - all food for thought - now back to selling houses. Exciting #News 📢 | #WindFloatAtlantic offshore wind farm celebrates 4 years of clean energy generation! 🎉 This project not only surpasses expectations with a remarkable 320 GWh of clean energy but also leaves a legacy, driven by a deep commitment to local communities, the future workforce, the fishing industry, and environmental stewardship. 🎯 Three #floating turbines began supplying power in July 2020, and to date, they have: ➡ generated an impressive 320 GWh ➡ provided clean energy to 25,000 households in Portugal each year ➡ avoided over 33,000 tons of CO2 emissions each year ➡ coexisted with more than 270 species within our offshore wind farm 💡 Did you know this project has also proven its resilience, withstanding the challenges of Storm Ciaran in 2023, with waves reaching up to 20 meters and wind gusts of 139 km/h?🌪️ This 4th anniversary also marks a before and after for OW Ocean Winds, as we celebrate Pedro Afonso Rodrigues, a Viana do Castelo local and international kitesurfer, as our very first #OWAmbassador.🌍🏄 In words of José Pinheiro, Country Manager for Southern Europe at OW and Project Director of #WindFloatAtlantic: "We are proud to see our project making a greater impact each year. At OW, our commitment goes beyond the environment—we engage with the Viana community through educational programs, visits, and active participation in this globally significant project." Last week we gathered all (100!) Rein employees + extended family from all over the world for a 2-day get together in the Norwegian mountains. As we prepare for the next stage of our growth journey, we focused on two main topics: culture + 2030 direction. Interest rates, framework conditions, congested grid, cannibalization: it sure ain’t getting any easier to develop renewable energy solutions ! Yet our mission to help our industrial clients on their decarbonisation journey has never been more important. And we have all it takes: strong customer pull, robust pipeline, the most amazing team of talents, world-class industrial heritage. So now it’s just a matter of delivering 😅. And for that, we need rock solid foundations. Living our values of care courage and collaboration every day. Fostering an inclusive culture that empowers & supercharges performance on all fronts, safely and sustainably for all stakeholders. We can do this. Let’s go team, bring it on 💪💪

Conducted by Spoor at the METCentre, 10 km off Karmøy, the study tracked over 21,000 bird passages since January 2022, providing key insights into bird behavior near turbines. Even after enhanced detection in October 2023, no collisions were found, proving that floating wind technology can coexist with bird populations. This data supports sustainable development and sets a positive example for future offshore wind projects. This pioneering study is a game-changer for balancing renewable energy growth with wildlife protection. Exciting times as Norway leads the way in sustainable energy and wildlife protection! 🪶💨🍃 #NorwegianOffshoreWind #TetraSpar #METCentre #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #OffshoreWind #GreenFuture

Excited to be a part of the hugely ambitious Zero Terrain / Energiasalv team, under the leadership of founder and CEO Peep Siitam. Last week I had the opportunity to visit the site of the first Zero Terrain project, located in Paldiski, Estonia. This 500MW Pumped-hydro storage (PHS) project is a European Commission Project of Common Interest (PCI) and all the main building permits are in place. Zero Terrain’s novel PHS technology is the next-generation solution in the field, eliminating the need for altitude difference in terrain as the plant can be built on flat land; traditional pumped-hydro storages can only be built in mountainous areas. It is clear that Long-duration Energy Storage (LDES) such as this will be a key provider of energy security. Pumped-hydro storage (PHS) is a mature and affordable LDES technology that supports greater renewable power generation. A project such as this is a cornerstone of renewable energy strategies due to its carbon-neutral nature and cost-effectiveness. It will also reduce reliance on Russian gas. The exciting opportunity with Zero Terrain is that the technology offers the opportunity to apply the benefits of PHS in other countries where it was previously impossible due to geographical conditions. Click here to watch a short video https://lnkd.in/eS3ha__v
📢 Exciting News! 📢 We're thrilled to announce Cathal Lee as part of our team to help kickstart Zero Terrain's global growth! With Cathal on board, we'll be elevating our global strategy, enhancing stakeholder engagement, and working with key partners across the globe. Welcome aboard, Cathal! Together we will work to support affordable local renewable energy and create a secure clean future for generations to come. 🌍💡 #Welcome #TeamExpansion #ZeroTerrain #EnergyInnovation #GlobalStrategy #StakeholderEngagement #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy #FutureOfEnergy
