You know that moment as an undergraduate when studying and reading research papers You could swear that you would never read a book after graduating...... Well, It's a lie. My journey after graduation revealed how much we truly learn outside of school. My father often quoted a phrase from an old exercise book that said, “Learning never ends.” He would add, "You learn every day." This truth has deeply resonated with me at this stage in my life. I’ve realized that while life throws lessons at you, there are also lessons you must actively seek to grow and succeed. Nothing in this world can replace the value of continuous learning. I’ve been especially inspired by Ben Carson’s book Think Big, where I learned that knowledge is indeed power and that applying knowledge with wisdom makes it a superpower. Despite promising myself as a young graduate that I wouldn’t pick up another book, I found myself pursuing my dream of becoming a Chartered Accountant. I was privileged to intern at an accounting firm with a team of experienced professionals and Chartered Accountants, and it has been a remarkable journey. During my internship, I strengthened my communication skills through interactions with colleagues, external partners, and clients. I honed my administrative skills by assisting in the firm’s administrative department, and I advanced my computer skills as well. This experience taught me the importance of flexibility our world is constantly evolving, and we must evolve with it. #ContinuousLearning #CharteredAccountant #TaxConsultant #DoxixConsult

Many went to school and whilst others walked out with the qualifications others walked out with the actual education. Some have the papers but did not learn anything in the process of obtaining those papers. Qualifications are naked in the absence of actual growth and development through experience. It is one thing to obtain knowledge, and another to know how to apply that knowledge in the broader spectrum of the reality of everyday life. Practical application outweighs theory, as theory, though logical, does not always apply practically. Hence, the world has programs such as internships, mentorships, and practicals, irrespective of the field. It is to dress the qualifications and enable the knowledge obtained to be useful. These are what will determine the impact your knowledge will have. This is the determining factor of tangible results. I used to think I could always figure things out on my own. But during my internship with ACCA, I met a colleague who changed my perspective. She always met, and even exceeded her targets. Watching her consistently excel sparked my curiosity. I wanted to know what she was doing that I wasn’t. So, every morning, I’d ask her about her strategies and pick up on the little details she shared. Over time, I noticed a change. I started meeting and exceeding my own targets too. I wasn’t just trying harder; I was learning from someone who already knew the way. The lesson? Sometimes, a simple question can unlock a whole new approach. If there’s someone excelling in an area you want to grow in, don’t hesitate to ask how they do it. Whether it’s that colleague hitting their goals, that friend managing their finances, or that couple nurturing a healthy relationship—there’s wisdom in reaching out. You don’t have to have all the answers or go through every challenge alone. Sometimes, asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s a step toward greater strength.

What’s unique about UTSA’s Accounting Program? Students are required to take a series of professional development courses taught in the accounting program. We teach this in their junior year. One of the things we do is prepare them for the meet the firms event in the fall. But we don’t just prepare them and send them to the expo. We close the loop. Tonight the class discussed the next steps. We talked about three things: 1) Following up with recruiters they met at the meet the firms event 2) Make sure they clean up their resumes one more time 3) Show them how to apply to the 89 different internships in accounting that are available right now We often talk about closing the loop in education, but we never do it because we’re so busy with other things. Tonight we closed the loop so that my 95 students can go out and grab an accounting internship. Academics is more than just theory. It’s about helping our students understand the profession they are walking into.

Compromise On Your Stipend.... 1)If you get a Manager whom you can ask any question!!!! Without having a fear that concern person will make you feel dumb...! Organisations do have a trend of making feeling interns dumb! 2)Good Exposure...Okay here I mean getting different work not the same work again and again ... there is an enormous difference between burdening yourself with monotonous work and learning new things. 3) Location.... Many of you will find this irrelevant but trust me guys it really consumes your energy a lot if the organisation is far from your residence..no matter whether you are studying or not you can utilise the remaining time for your self improvement! 4)If the field fascinates you a lot..! A degree can be utilised for several fields...For instance you can be in Compliance, Secretarial,Due Diligence,Audit what not ....! Choose the field that fascinates you the most! Feel free to add your feedback ! Last but not the least..... Chase it❤️ #training #internship #stipend #learning #companysecretary #charteredaccountant #CS #CA #Insolvency #IBC #work #exposure #tips

Accountancy Student Spotlight: Krystof Nikola Hometown: Wall Township, NJ Residence Hall: Dunne Hall What inspired you to pursue a degree in accounting? One factor was that I enjoyed and performed well in my fundamental accounting classes. Another factor was Notre Dame's strong alumni network for accounting which made it very easy for me to get internships/jobs. How has your perception of accounting evolved since starting college? At first, I thought accountants were just responsible for maintaining the books for companies, but now I understand their job is so much more important. Accountants are responsible for accurately reporting information in financial statements to help measure business performance and allow creditors and investors to determine how to better allocate their resources. What is your favorite class you've taken and why? Favorite class: Data Analytics in Accounting. I was able to gain exposure to topics not discussed in other accounting classes, such as Excel techniques and probability distributions. What did you like best about your summer internship? What was the most important takeaway from such an experience? In my Risk & Financial Advisory internship at Deloitte, I enjoyed the networking opportunities. I got to go to Deloitte University in Texas and many venues throughout New York City to meet Deloitte professionals and other interns. One important takeaway was to take advantage of these networking opportunities. Additionally, when I had downtime throughout my internship, I was not afraid to talk to my team and ask if they needed help with anything. This not only kept me busy at work but also allowed me to contribute to my team. What advice do you have for other students aspiring to pursue a career in accounting? Try to get involved in SIBC Accounting early in college (freshman and sophomore year). Take advantage of networking events and internship opportunities, especially during sophomore year because the Big 4 accounting firms recruit many of their interns sophomore year.
