What is Interventional Radiology? 🤔 Interventional radiology (IR) is a rapidly growing field that uses advanced imaging technology to diagnose and treat conditions without the need for surgery. This means: 🔵 Less Pain 🔵 Reduced Risk 🔵 Shorter Recovery Times 🔵 Precision Targeting From treating uterine fibroids with Uterine Fibroid Embolization to providing non-surgical options for cancer patients, IR is revolutionizing healthcare. For example, instead of a full hysterectomy for fibroids, women can now choose a less invasive procedure that shrinks fibroids and preserves the uterus. This new and innovative procedure treats benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH), which is when the prostate grows larger but isn’t cancerous. By injecting tiny particles into the blood vessels that supply the prostate, doctors can reduce blood flow, which shrinks the prostate and eases symptoms like trouble urinating—all without surgery. This approach helps patients recover faster and with less risk. Interventional radiology uses imaging to guide minimally invasive procedures, such as treating blocked arteries, shrinking tumors, and stopping bleeding. It is also used in the fight against cancer. Cryoablation, an interventional radiology procedure, uses extreme cold to destroy cancerous cells. It serves as an alternative to traditional surgery with faster recovery times. #BCRCSB #BreastCancerAwareness #AwarenessEducationCommunity #BreastCancerAwareness #HealthcareHeros #Healthcare #RadLeaders #radiologist #ACR #Radiology #radiologist #Radiationtherapy #RadOncologist

🌍 Interventional radiology is revolutionizing patient care globally! Minimally invasive procedures are rapidly becoming the standard, offering faster recovery times, reduced pain, and lower risks compared to traditional surgery. 🚀 The Advanced Access Guidewire from Bcv offers a disruptive, tailor-made system for practitioners. This Class III medical device is currently under development and not yet available for sale worldwide. 🔍 With over 20 million minimally invasive procedures and 10 million robotic-assisted surgeries performed annually, trust in these techniques is booming. By 2025, minimally invasive procedures are expected to exceed 27 million annually, spanning neurology, cardiovascular, oncology, and more. ✨ Embracing these advancements means a brighter future for patient care, driven by technology and efficiency. #InterventionalRadiology #MinimallyInvasive #HealthcareInnovation #MedicalAdvancements #PatientCare

💗Editor's pick: <Original Article> "Mortality and reoperation rate of biological versus mechanical Bentall-De Bono operation: a propensity-matched study" ✅This study assesses the long-term outcomes of the Bentall-De Bono operation, comparing biological (#bCVG) and mechanical composite valve grafts (#mCVG). It finds that bCVG is associated with lower 10-year mortality but a higher reoperation rate, while follow-up mortality is more influenced by patient comorbidities rather than valve type. 📕Download the PDF for free: https://lnkd.in/gZG3nsMF #AorticRootSurgery #valve #Cardiothoracic #meded Kevin An Michael Cinilia Nicholas Hess, MD Mohamed Eldeiry Sara Volpi Irbaz Hameed CardioVascular and Interventional Radiology (CVIR) EACTS - European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Abbott | Cardiovascular

Interventional Radiology (IR) is a cutting-edge medical specialty that uses imaging guidance to perform minimally invasive procedures, offering alternatives to traditional surgery. By using techniques like X-ray, MRI, and ultrasound, interventional radiologists can precisely target areas within the body to treat a variety of conditions such as vascular diseases, cancer, and pain management. These procedures typically result in less pain, shorter recovery times, and reduced risk of complications compared to open surgery. From treating tumors with targeted therapies to performing angioplasty to open blocked arteries, IR is transforming patient care with innovative, less invasive solutions. Ablation vs. Surgery: Study Reveals Comparable Outcomes! A study from the Netherlands was halted as it showed percutaneous ablation yielded similar outcomes to surgical resection, leading to endorsement from the Society for Interventional Radiology, although presenting this at tumor boards requires more than just data. My recent trip to the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association conference in Austin, TX this past week was a great opportunity to check in on the Clinical Factors driving one of the most impactful specialties in Surgery. A few takeaways I found interesting: 1. Demand for #cardiac and #thoracic surgery is increasing worldwide. Coronary Artery Disease and Lung Cancer are not going away any time soon. Unfortunately, demand (sick patients) is starting to outpace supply (surgeons). There are a lot of initiatives to bring more future MDs into one of the most challenging, demanding, and rewarding specialties in medicine. 2. The fastest growing procedure in the field of #cardiac surgery is TAVR excision and replacement with SAVR. 3. Intuitive is dominating the field of #thoracic surgery. Robot-assisted thoracic surgery is unseating VATS as the strategy of the future and it isn't even close. Next up is #cardiac where awareness and momentum are building. 4. There is an increasing focus on holistic contribution metrics. Not just the number of cases and quality. Time in the OR, length of stay, and referrals/transfers accepted are all being tracked and reviewed by hospital administration. 5. Technological and clinical #Innovation is accelerating as hospitals look to navigate these challenges. It is always an honor to sit in the back of the room and listen to some of the smartest people in medicine. #cardiothoracic #medtech The Society of Thoracic Surgeons Centese

The goal of interventional radiology, when it comes to diagnostics, is to identify and analyze a body’s problem areas in a way that is faster, safer, and less invasive than open surgery 🔎✨ Using a combination of advanced imaging tools, IR doctors can capture detailed images of the body’s inner structures – a viewpoint that was once inaccessible without exploratory surgery or other more invasive techniques. 🔵 How Does It Work? 🔵 At ECCO Medical, our team can use these techniques to diagnose a wide range of conditions. Angiography, for instance, allows us to spot blockages or narrowing in blood vessels, helping detect conditions like peripheral artery disease. Similarly, image-guided biopsies can identify tumors or infections, all without the need for open surgery. Ready to experience the ECCO Medical difference? Here's our new article published as a E-Video in Endoscopy and entitled: "Complete section of the common bile duct during complicated cholecystectomy: laparoscopy-guided endoscopic treatment, a mini-invasive approach" Endoscopy is the cornerstone in the managmeent of biliary tract injuries and should be always consider! Combined approach with laparoscopic surgery or interventional radiology is the key in the management of complex biliary wound as section of the commun hepatic duct with or without left and right duct deconnexion. https://lnkd.in/eavHNCsS CHRU de Strasbourg - Hôpitaux Universitaires de Strasbourg #TeamWork #Endoscopy #GIEndoscopy #medicine
