This week, Team Virgin Media are celebrating a Very Virgin Volunteer Week, with 5 days of fantastic volunteering opportunities lined up throughout the week supporting good causes from our local communities. Today, we are kicking things off at FoodCloud Kitchen, preparing meals and learning ways to minimise food waste. FoodCloud tackle the twin issues of food waste and food insecurity by redistributing surplus food from the food industry to a network of charity and community partners. Big thanks to FoodCloud for welcoming us in for the day. Virgin Media Ireland #VeryVirginVolunteerWeek #Connecting4Good #ItsPlaytime #FoodCloudVolunteers

Celebrating this year’s World Food Day on the theme, “Right to Foods for a Better Life and a Better Future”, reminds us that everyone deserves access to nutritious, affordable, and sustainable food. At Cocoa360, we believe that the right to food goes beyond just nourishment—it’s about creating opportunities for a better life. Our community cocoa farm, managed by the dedicated parents of our girls, is a shining example of how food can drive opportunity, education, and health. It’s not just about food on our plates, but ensuring that no one is left behind when it comes to basic human rights. Today let’s reflect, raise awareness, and take meaningful action to build a world where no one goes hungry, and every family has the tools to grow, share, and thrive. It was an incredibly fulfilling day to volunteer at The Passage in London, and it was inspiring to see our London team members step up to support this great cause. It has been rewarding to grow Compre's Community Involvement as part of our ESG Roadmap this year. We are in the process of connecting more widely with local communities, with the help of our local team members in all of #Compre's global locations. We can all get so caught up in our daily work routines that we forget about the impact and influence a little help can have on the life trajectory of those around us, family, friends, colleagues, and, the wider community. We can all make a difference to our space on the planet. In addition, did you know that research indicates that those who consistently help other people experience less depression, greater calm, fewer pains and better health? The wellbeing impact of offering volunteer initiatives to your employees and teams as well as the wider community can't be ignored. 📢 I am excited for what the future holds in this space, How are you helping someone today? #ESG #helpinghand #community
Community Involvement On Wednesday 18th September, a few of our colleagues from the London team took part in a kitchen takeover for our London charity partner, The Passage. The team then headed down to the kitchen to start the prep for lunch and meet the chefs. The team worked diligently from 10 AM - 3:30 PM, preparing a lovely lunch of the roast dinner. Our #Compre team members discovered their hidden talents as chefs, chopping vegetables, seasoning food and creating a delicious fruit salad. The day was filled with smiles as the team helped feed almost 100 people who rely on a hot meal from The Passage. It was an incredibly fulfilling experience to be able to assist and contribute to the community. We look forward to more volunteering initiatives in the future. It is great to see community involvement growing as part of our ESG Roadmap at Compre Group. A big shout out to all our Compre volunteers, as well as Theo Fox and Alexandra M. from The Passage. Connect with either of them if you are interested in volunteering opportunities. The impact made on homelessness in London through their long-term support stretches far beyond just offering shelter and a hot meal - Learn more about The Passage Charity and their incredible work here: The Passage Simon Hawkins, Marina Fourie, Camille Rene - Waterhouse, Hollie Bishop, Juliet Drake (she/her), Jeremy Fisher, Madeleine Walo, Iyanuoluwa A., and Natasha Saunders #wevalueachother #growwithus #ESG #communityinvolvement #volunteering

Zero waste isn't just for the kitchen, it's a way of life! However, it's not always easy to keep up with. We strive to make sustainability a little more accessible and budget friendly by incorporating zero waste practices into Food Forward's everyday work life. With creative activities like clothing swaps, our staff has a chance to up-cycle unwanted clothes while having some fun in the office! Would you participate in an office clothing swap? It's hard to describe the past autumn in a few sentences (and it's not over yet 😉 ). 💡 Key words: charity, busy, amazing, varied, exhausting, travelling the country, working in the sun and rain, meeting and working with fantastic people. This autumn we held charity team-building events for 8 companies and awarness-raising programme for 3; all in 32 days. 🤗 We helped 3 national parks, 4 children's homes, 2 environmental NGOs, 1 home for the elderly, 1 community centre, 1 community garden together with volunteers from companies. ⛏ We built bird boxes, raised flower beds, composting bins, stork nests, painted rooms, eliminated invasive species, renovated information boards, etc. I have had the opportunity to field visit, plan the events, lead programmes, give presentations, demonstrate awareness raising games and of course improvise when nothing went as planned. 🌺 Meanwhile, we have 2 menstruation programmes running which I manage, so I often found myself checking in to international meetings from the conservation area in my wellies. 😆 I'm very proud of our work and the team we've done it with. 💚 Zöldövezet Társulás Egyesület It is fantastic to benefit from these experiences. #environmentprotection #charity #charityteambuilding

🌟 Proud to see how initiatives like PORCH Chattanooga are growing and making a difference in our communities! 🌟 PORCH Chattanooga is part of the larger PORCH Communities movement, dedicated to reducing food insecurity through neighbors helping neighbors. Our model is simple: once a month neighbors leave the most needed non-perishable items on their front porches, and our volunteers pick up and deliver them to a local pantry. This incredible program is an example of how we can all play a role in supporting our neighbors and creating a more sustainable future. PORCH Chattanooga’s success shows the power of community involvement. By donating food, volunteering, or simply spreading the word, we can all contribute to making our towns better places to live. If you're inspired by PORCH Chattanooga, consider starting or joining a similar initiative in your own community. (https://lnkd.in/ehtgZTQS) Together, we can create a network of support and ensure that no one goes hungry. Marking this significant milestone, we aim to blend our legacy with a forward-looking approach to corporate social responsibility. By partnering with The Trussell Trust, we are not just commemorating our past; we are also laying down a path for a future where businesses and communities work hand in hand for the greater good. ⭐ This week’s Spotlight shines a light on Janet McDonnell, an exceptional lead volunteer who has completed over 125 food rescues since May 2022. We are so grateful to have volunteers like Janet and couldn’t be more appreciative of her commitment to fighting food waste and food insecurity in our community. SNEAK PEEK VFR: Janet, what initially interested you in volunteering with VFR? And what keeps you coming back to do more food rescues? Janet: I saw a clip about VFR on the news and decided to sign up on the VFR app. I find the volunteering easy, it doesn’t take much time, and I’m saving good food from being thrown out and giving it to nearby nonprofits. I find it deeply meaningful when I see the places where I drop off the food – whether it’s a seniors’ centre, a community fridge, or a women’s shelter. I appreciate that I can use the VFR app to pick any food rescue I want, and it shows me exactly which nonprofit I will be delivering the food to. Also, for most volunteering opportunities, volunteers are required to commit to a fixed schedule. I’m retired, and I travel a lot, so that doesn’t really suit me. With the VFR app, I can claim food rescues whenever I want. Currently, I am signed up for a weekly food rescue, but when I am going out of town, I simply request a substitute driver for the dates I’m away through the app, and I’m done – I don’t have to find a replacement or feel guilty about my absence.
