Exciting news to share! The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced last Tuesday that PDX Clean Industry Network was one of 23 teams to win a CONCEPT phase of the American-Made Community Energy Innovation Prize. This team includes the City of Portland’s Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, Columbia Corridor Association, Portland State University Institute for Sustainable Solutions, Prosper Portland, Energy 350, OSU Industrial Assessment Center, Center for Sustainable Infrastructure, Worksystems and OMIC R&D. If you are not familiar with industrial symbiosis, it’s a resource sharing model for industry in which one business’ excess energy, water, or waste becomes an input for another business. This is an arena that holds a lot of promise for direct benefits to the environment, demonstrated industrial decarbonization with greenhouse gas reductions and a just transition for workers. https://lnkd.in/ghmg3GZM
The dream of the circular economy is alive in Portland!
Congratulations to all the team! Let me know if there is any interest on sharing progress and information as open data 😎
Very exciting! Congrats to all involved!
That is awesome! I have friends in Missouri working to transform data center waste heat into heat for hydroponic greenhouses - love that more and more of these type of ideas are catching on! 👏
Very cool! Congratulations to all involved. Let us know if we can help support in any way.
Urban Ecology/Symbiosis is what Bullitt promoted under the program I managed. Nature knows no waste, so how can we learn from living systems to create these symbiotic relationships. This is very exciting news. Congratulations Portland!
