We took a moment to ask Eleni for some fun facts about herself. 🥧 I’m from Greece, and my grandmother’s spinach pie is my ultimate comfort food. It’s not just a dish; it’s a cherished memory that takes me back to my childhood. I can still picture her in the kitchen, rolling out the dough and mixing the spinach and feta by hand. To this day, every time I make or eat spinach pie, I feel a deep connection to my roots and my grandmother’s love. 🚶 I love spending time with my family on walks, taking the dog out and riding Voi scooters around the city. It’s a great way to unwind and feel even more connected to my work in micromobility. ⚖️ I’m passionate about corporate law because it allows me to support business growth while ensuring compliance in an increasingly complex regulatory environment. Heroes and role models: a possible series 🍴A week has passed: What better way to end your holiday than with a light lunch with two dear colleagues and friends? Since they didn't know each other, it was time to introduce them. In doing so, things come to the fore that have almost been forgotten over the years and decades. Especially when a friend was and is a great role model. And a major influence on my professional development. 🗣️ Thomas Gerhardus will hate me for mentioning him by name. But I can't let this opportunity for a shout out pass me by. I first met Thomas during a job interview as a trainee lawyer at the former Karstadt AG. I will never forget the enthusiasm he radiated for his job as a corporate lawyer. I wanted to be that passionate about my job once in the same way. 🦸🏼♂️ As I got to know him better, it quickly became clear to me that, as a lawyer and a person, he embodied the in-house counsel I once wanted to become. A brilliant lawyer, with whom I could never compete. At the same time, like no other, he is able to communicate the law and think commercially. He treats everyone (I mean everyone) at every level with maximum respect. Regardless of whether it was other lawyers, the board member or the cleaner. Yet he was never too good to include and support me as a young colleague. 💡 In retrospect, that was a life-changing moment. It shaped my view of my profession, triggered my connection to retail, which I have never left since. It also shaped how I wanted to develop as a person and how I want to interact with people. Before we undertake searches at Marsden, our private practice team spends a lot of time researching and analysing the talent pools in all of the major global legal centres. When we look top tier transactional lawyers who commenced their legal careers in 2019 or earlier, there are very few with just one firm on their CV. What does that tell us? 1. The people who haven't yet changed firm at this level have something pretty good going on with their current firm. They are not likely to move unless they have a reason to – such as progression being blocked, or a similar ‘push factor’. 2. Firms targeting first-time movers need to approach them in a targeted, bespoke way, and with a very appealing and well thought through proposition. 3. Law firms and hiring partners need to be much more open to recruiting lawyers who have moved firms before. As global markets heat up and the demand for top-tier transactional lawyers increases, talent pools will shrink. Excluding lawyers from interview shortlists on the basis that they have moved firms could prove counter-productive. 4. It's more usual that younger lawyers don't subscribe to the ‘one firm for life’ mantra. In line with other industries, legal careers will be more fluid in the future. Once you make partner (or if you’re on your way to partnership), it’s NOT enough to just be a “good” lawyer 😳 I know. I am not making this easy for you - but hear me out. In the last five years of our operation here in Mexico City, we have seen a lot of legal professionals and law firms. This included everything from Global law firms to boutique law firms. There are three things that really propel legal & finance careers forward (as witnessed through the clients we’ve worked with ) : 1. Ability to market oneself according their industry 2.
