The #KATRIN collaboration met a few days ago for its biannual collaboration meeting—this time again at Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT). Everyone is very pleased that the KATRIN experiments infrastructure, the #tritium #loop at the Tritium Laboratory Karlsruhe, the large spectrometer and the detector working flawlessly. The collaboration continues to collect data successfully and is on track to reach its goal of 1,000 measurement days, which is expected to be achieved in 2025, the final year of Phase 1 of KATRIN. As the new #neutrino #mass results are currently under review for publication, our focus this time in the area of data analysis was on physics beyond the Standard Model, where we can also expect exciting publications in the near future. Additionally, we discussed preparations for the next phase of KATRIN, Phase 2, which will begin in 2026. In this phase, the entire beta spectrum of tritium decay will be analyzed for signatures of keV-scale #sterile neutrinos using the TRISTAN detector. Finally, we also addressed future neutrino mass experiments and related new technologies, which are being developed under the name KATRIN++. These include the development of novel differential #quantum sensors and an atomic tritium source—both essential components to achieve a sensitivity to neutrino mass well beyond that of KATRIN. #collaboration #largescale #science #research

Pushing the Frontiers of X-Ray Science at the Universität Siegen We are performing interdisciplinary research and apply coherent X-ray scattering to explore dynamic processes in condensed matter.  With collaborations across world-known facilities such as DESY, European XFEL , ESRF - The European Synchrotron, FERMI (Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste), SACLA and Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS), we address exciting research topics; Investigating slow dynamics in protein condensates to help in developing new drug delivery systems, improving food preservation techniques, and innovating biotechnological processes that rely on controlled protein interactions, Unraveling ultrafast dynamics in magnetic materials for developing more efficient memory devices, Probing ultrafast dynamics of high intensity laser excited solids that could lead to innovations in laser-driven electronics and high-speed material processing, Utilizing big data analytics in X-ray science, Developing the data analysis pipeline for the X-ray community. 🔋 Exciting News 🚀  I'm thrilled to share our latest research, published in Communications Materials, titled "Positron unveiling high mobility graphene stack interfaces in Li-ion cathodes." I would like to express my gratitude to my supervisors and co-authors for their invaluable support and significant contributions. 👩🏻💻 Please feel free to check out the full details of our article here: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/diRiBdtp 🛠The data related to our experiments was previously published in the iScience journal under the title: "Quantum view of Li-ion high mobility at carbon-coated cathode interfaces. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ds8A_bH6 🔍 Our research utilizes positron as innovative, non-destructive probe to explore the nano-interfaces within cathodes. By employing an ab initio method with a non-local density approximation, we have analyzed the positron annihilation lifetime at a graphene stack lithium cobalt oxide (LCO) heterojunction. ⚛️ The findings underscore the interface between LCO and graphene as a p-type Schottky junction, highlighting positron surface states that indicate ultra-fast mobility of positive ions. This successful application of positron theoretical calculation methods in lithium-ion batteries is instrumental in optimizing carbon layers, thereby improving the design of fast-charging channels for next-generation batteries. 🤝 Moving forward, we will continue to explore the use of positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS) and coincidence Doppler broadening spectroscopy (CDBS) in the energy sector.
