[READ] South Africa can become a global leader in the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector. Securing more business events, both large and small, is a key strategy to achieve this target. Every conference, every meeting, brings with it a wave of economic activity, supporting and enabling the creation of many more jobs. Our goal, once the visitors are here, is to provide experiences that encourage them to stay longer. After the pandemic we all thought that the new way forward for the event industry was virtual and hybrid events. We would be able to reach a wider audience much more easily and save thousands in costs along the way. We soon realised very quickly that this was not the case. We wanted to reconnect in person again. Networking is a crucial skill in both personal and professional contexts. It involves building and maintaining relationships that can lead to opportunities, support, and information exchange. Engaging with a diverse group of professionals allows for the exchange of ideas, best practices, and industry insights. It provides; > Support System: A strong network provides emotional and professional support, which is invaluable during challenging times. > Collaboration Opportunities: Networking facilitates partnerships and collaborations that can lead to innovative projects and business ventures. > Visibility and Personal Branding: Active networking helps individuals increase their visibility in their industry and build a personal brand, enhancing their professional reputation. For the last event of the year I had the privilege of joining the TAG UK Events team Chris Turner and Brad Bray Gemma Collinge in Bangkok run by the wonderful Claire Jones. We were joined by over 1200 attendees from the airline industry, over 7 days, with 3 receptions a gala dinner, over 30 exhibitors, a plenary, 4 tracks and various industry meetings. This was truly a fantastic networking event to work on. #events #networking #collobration #teamwork #internationalevents #conferences #exhibitors #sponsors

Part Two... Paula Bellamy, Co-Founder of Hive Connect recently attended the Centrolene Network conference in Kuala Lumpur, so the Hive team wanted to pose some questions to Paula on what she gained from attending. 6. How do international networking events differ from local or national ones in terms of value and opportunities? When you network locally, it is easy to help others understand the subject you are referring to and you have a common grasp of how logistics works in the UK, when you network Internationally it is your role to help the other party understand your local knowledge of procedures within your country, the way you can help them understand and the benefits you can offer their business so they know that working with you would be a good support to their business. Opportunities are always there if you connect well with that other person and spend the time getting to know them too on a personal level. 7. Where there any standout speakers or sessions that particularly resonated with you? Francis Tan who is a wealth and management advisor presented a really informative presentation in a way that was easy to understand and really very interesting. 8. Did you notice any common themes or concerns among leaders from different regions? Common themes were sustainability and tough times in logistics in 2024. 9. How do you balance relationship building and professional goals during international events? These 2 things go hand in hand for me always, my relationship building has helped me achieve my professional goals and always will. If you listen well and work hard to support any partner the rewards will follow 10. What strategies did you use to make the most of the event in terms of building valuable, lasting connections? For myself it is as basic as making notes during my meetings. During the conferences, myself and my colleague had over 35 different meetings and therefore remembering those conversations is extremely important for following up. I always issue my report straight after the conference so the comments are still fresh and then follow up within the next few days with my connections to ensure safe travel home. All these points have served me well and make the experience very enjoyable also. Thanks Paula for taking the time to share your valuable insights on International Networking! #internationalnetworking #logisticsinsights #freightforwardingnetworking

Exciting news for the Australian business events industry! The Australian Business Events Association (ABEA) has released insights from the International Business Events Forward Calendar 2024, forecasting strong growth in the sector up to 2031. 🌏 Key Highlights: 📌 $760 million in delegate spending secured through international business events, with $697 million stemming from domestic spending. 📌 A robust pipeline of 2792 total event days and 1.6 million delegate days. 📌 Professional, scientific, and technical services lead the focus areas (25%), followed closely by health and social assistance events (24%). However, challenges remain, with geographic preference (29%) and costs (13%) cited as key reasons for lost bids. As ABEA CEO Melissa Brown notes: “Australia is a great place to host events. However, we sit within a hugely competitive global landscape.” The findings reinforce the vital role of Tourism Australia’s national bid fund in securing future growth for this dynamic industry. This report is a testament to the resilience and potential of Australia's business events sector to drive trade, innovation, and knowledge exchange on a global stage. #BusinessEvents #Australia #EventManagement #TourismIndustry
