😊 Get to know our paralegal apprentices 😊 In September we welcomed our new paralegal apprentices. They are based across a variety of departments in our firm, working alongside our experienced professionals in a real-life legal environment. 📄 Our scheme is specifically designed for those who have completed their A Levels (or equivalent) and want to gain skills and experience in an office-based environment that offers a practical route into a future career and profession without the need to go to university. See what our apprentices have to say below and find out more in our latest blog 👇 https://lnkd.in/dx2a2scM

💻Hello Network!💻 This evening I had the pleasure of attending the Linklaters x Young Professionals ‘Insight into Linklaters’ virtual event! This event enabled the next generation of legal professionals to gain an insight into the exciting opportunities that await at a firm like Linklaters.🌟 We heard from Becky McGregor, a senior partner at the firm who oversees the solicitor apprentices, as well as Malcolm Horton who hilighted the level of investment in both staff and apprentices at the firm. It was also great to hear from current apprentices such as Honor Hawkes, Saheer Syed and Annabel Kaley who discussed their personal application tips and an overview of the day-to-day life of an apprentice at Linklaters. 📝Here are some key takeaways from this event! 📝 1️⃣ Research, research, research! The overwhelming piece of advice from both the early careers team and the apprentices was to take every opportunity to get to know the firm better. Centre your research around the firm and their unique apprenticeship programme in order to convey your genuine interest. 2️⃣ organisation is key! Another key element to application season that often proves challenging is organisation. With many applications opening and closing in different time frames, it has never been more important to stay organised as to not miss a deadline. This is vital to aspiring apprentices who are juggling the workload of A-Levels, Solicitor apprenticeship applications, and a part-time job. One piece of advice I found helpful was given by Honor Hawkes - set yourself soft deadlines! 📋 3️⃣ Supportive environment It was refreshing to hear the apprentices speak so highly about the support available during their journey so far - whether it be from mentors, staff at BPP Law School, buddies or the early careers team. A big thank you to all of the speakers at the event, it was both memorable and informative.

🔮 INSIGHT TO LINKLATERS🔮 Today I attended the ‘Insight to Linklaters’, hosted by Young Professionals, Dan M.. The event offered an invaluable glimpse at how it is like to be an apprentice in a magic circle law firm, along with comprehensive details on the application process. 🛍️ KEY TAKEAWAYS 🛍️ Becky McGregor and Malcolm Horton explained the impact and the purpose of starting a solicitor apprenticeship in Linklaters. They also provided information on how Linklaters, as a law firm will support its apprentice on their career growth. ▪️By offering apprenticeships for solicitors at the degree level and by sponsoring organisations and insight events such as Young Professionals. This has made it easier for young people to learn about the legal profession. ▪️ Furthermore, having such a programme will allow Linklaters to involve the younger generation to work in the firm, which will also cause new dynamics. ▪️ Apprentices are also provided with extensive training and tools to help their career goals. This demonstrated the encouraging atmosphere Linklaters had created, enabling trainees to succeed in the firm. 💡KEY TIPS 💡 Solicitor apprentices: Annabel Kaley, Honor Hawkes and Maddie Pennington discussed their experiences as Linklaters apprentices , whilst also offering some important application advice. ▪️be confident with the things that you are saying and what you believe in, display your interest towards law and why you want to be there ▪️ research on the firms before applying ▪️be open-minded to every opportunities and advices provided by others, put yourself into networking ▪️be organised with deadline ⭐️CONCLUSION ⭐️ It was a very beneficial session where they gave thorough details regarding their apprenticeship programme. It was also encouraging to see Linklater's commitment to young people, demonstrated by the apprenticeship scheme and the insight events held. A Huge thank you to all the speakers at the event, it was a very informative and helpful session. #linklaters #youngProfessionals #law #insights #virtual

Alongside other industry bodies, the CLLS is concerned that the government’s proposed removal of levy funding for Level 7 solicitor apprenticeships could hinder diversity in the legal profession by limiting access for candidates from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Speaking to Law360 UK last week, #CLLS Chair Colin Passmore reiterated that the funding cut risks discouraging talented students from non-traditional backgrounds, thereby undermining efforts to make solicitor apprenticeships as respected as university routes. Read more below, and let us know your thoughts. https://lnkd.in/eyv8idWM

How can firms mentor their young lawyers: * Have an onboarding program to introduce new lawyers to the firm. * Assign a mentor to each new lawyer. * Teach partners how to communicate and interact with new lawyers. * Encourage senior lawyers take new lawyers to hearings, depositions, trial, marketing events, etc. * Facilitate communications between new lawyers and more senior associates to have someone help them acclimate to the firm and practice. * Have senior lawyers understand and approach training new lawyers as an apprenticeship model.

City Century won the Standout in DE&I category at the British Legal Awards last week, against tough completion. We could go on about how this is lovely recognition, how the award credentialises what we are doing, how in the evening we were humbled and honoured etc. Instead, please hear this all who *need* to hear it: 🔀 Solicitor apprenticeships transform lives 🛗 Particularly those from low SEB lives 🕵🏾♀️ By finding the most talented aspiring lawyers in the country 🤝And offering them the *best* legal careers in the country 🧑🏻⚖️With the *best* law firms 🏙️ In the *best* city 🇬🇧 In the *best* country in the world 💷 When they will pay tax into the system from 18 and 💰Many will pay higher rate tax on qualification. We need to save funding for Level 7 legal apprenticeships, and the apprenticeships themselves and implore those with decision-making powers to make the right decisions. Drop us a like if you agree! #LearningLondonLawyering #DE&I #LegalCareers (Picture of City Century Co-CEO, Patrick McCann, in a brown suit with green bow tie holding the award.)

🌟 Exciting News from Browne Jacobson🌟 Ben Bentley from the barristers team has been part of the steering group that has been instrumental in the creation of the barristers apprenticeship. This initiative is set to revolutionise access to the legal profession, making it more inclusive for aspiring barristers. #BrowneJacobsonLLP #InnovationInLaw #BarristerApprenticeship #Accessibility #FutureOfLawLaw
We're proud to support a ground-breaking initiative that's set to transform access to the legal profession. As one of the first firms to introduce solicitor apprenticeships, we've been at the forefront of creating new pathways into law – and since, are proud to have supported IfATE (Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education) and The Bar Standards Board (BSB) in their creation of the Barrister Apprenticeship Standard, announced this week. This new standard sets out the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to become a successful practising barrister in England and Wales. Partner and Barrister at Browne Jacobson, Ben Bentley, is part of the Bar Apprenticeships Trailblazing Steering Group, which has been instrumental in the creation of the new critical standard. It is hoped that the new standard will break down barriers and create meaningful opportunities for aspiring legal professionals. As a firm committed to being at the forefront of society's biggest issues, we believe apprenticeships are key to driving social mobility and diversifying the legal landscape. This isn't just about training lawyers – it's about empowering individuals from all backgrounds to become advocates who can truly represent their communities.
