On 12 March, we attended the conference "Transitioning Energy in the Mediterranean", organised by World Energy Council and Organisation Méditerranéenne de l'Energie et du Climat in collaboration with Edison. Despite the geopolitical crisis, the Euro-Mediterranean region lies at the centre of ongoing energy dynamics and holds a key role in energy transition and climate issues. Highlighting the importance of interconnections and interoperability of the systems, MEDREG President and ANRE - The Moroccan Electricity Regulatory Authority President Abdellatif BARDACH affirmed that the presence of regional organizations such as MEDREG is vital in facilitating the energy transition, helping countries navigate the legal complexities and charting a path towards clean energy. He asserted that the regulatory framework can enhance energy security, connect countries through sustainable energy exchange, and unlock economic growth for all. In addition, while countries are embracing renewable energy options, we need regulations that not only ensure grid stability and fair competition but also actively incentivise and facilitate the integration of these new sources. MEDREG Permanent Vice-President and ARERA - Autorità di Regolazione per Energia Reti e Ambiente President Stefano Besseghini intervened as keynote speaker, focusing on energy security, while MEDREG Vice-President and Regulatory Authority for Energy, Waste and Water Board Member Konstantinos Tsimaras delivered a speech during the "5th meeting of WEC Med cross-regional collaboration initiative". 👉 Read our web news for more information: https://shorturl.at/iptX1

It’s an exciting time for the clean energy industry in BC! Generate 2024 is a great opportunity to join us as a sponsor, speaker, exhibitor, attendee and to discuss important issues related to the BC Hydro’s Call for Power and our province’s clean energy future so that we bolster our ability to attract new and increased investment, cultivate meaningful partnerships and create economic opportunities in our province while taking climate action. Clean Energy BC is Business and First Nations communities clean energy partnerships delivering affordable, environmentally-responsible, clean energy. Clean Energy BC and its members are in the right sector, in the right place, at the right time, with the right mission. CEBC Executive Director Kwatuuma Cole Sayers : “All the factors are in place to ensure our sector has the wind at its back and is ready to make a significant impact and deliver 3,000-gigawatt hours per year of renewable energy in clean electricity by 2030. Over the last fifteen years, our members have been building clean energy projects all over the world. We are a team that’s been preparing like athletes for the Olympics — and the moment has finally arrived to skate out onto the ice. We’re ready, and we’re excited. We’ve had our eye on this moment for a long time; we know we can be successful. As an association and a sector, we focus on producing clean electricity — providing electrons into the grid so that other economic sectors have more access to clean energy to meet their ESG targets. All these industries are crucial to the economic health of British Columbia, so our mission is to help assist them in this energy transition.” Register here: https://lnkd.in/g3S-wCVz

Looking forward to this discussion at the The Economist Energy Transition Summit in London next week – I’ll be sharing some of things we’ve learnt at Coca-Cola Europacific Partners on how to measure, report and reduce Scope 3 emissions: - Our starting point is that including Scope 3 emissions within our carbon inventory, reduction targets and commitments is essential. Without them you simply won’t have an accurate picture. - Like many companies in our sector, over 90% of our GHG emissions are Scope 3. But creating a perfect picture at first time of asking is impossible. - We’ve been calculating, disclosing and assuring Scope 3 emissions since 2016 and we continue to rely on a variety of approaches – using primary data (e.g. related to our packaging), global & regional emission factors and spend-based estimates. - It hasn’t been an easy journey. To get credible, reliable information has taken many years. We refine our calculations and work on getting better data each year. We are now beginning to incorporate supplier-specific emission factors from our major packaging and ingredients suppliers. - Don’t let measurement & reporting drive the agenda. The key is to identify the main drivers of Scope 3 emissions and then be laser focused on building roadmaps to reduce. For CCEP that means building long-term roadmaps to reduce GHG emissions from packaging, ingredients, cold drinks equipment and third-party transport & logistics. - Supplier engagement is critical. We are asking our ‘carbon strategic suppliers’ to set science-based targets (by 2025) and transition to 100% renewable electricity (by 2030). - And we're working with the Supplier Leadership on Climate Transition programme to build supplier capability and support suppliers with the resources, knowledge and tools they need. - Incentivising suppliers is also key - we’ve implemented a new sustainability supply chain finance programme, operated by Rabobank, which incentivises and rewards suppliers to improve their performance. How are the cities of Munich, Budapest and Vienna working to decarbonize their heating system? Well, if you missed out on the presentation, go check out the summary of the workshop 👇 Key takeways: 🔥 Cities' freedom of decision. The pace of this transition often hangs on the city's own regulatory powers. Vienna, for instance, can enact energy regulations independently to phase out fossil fuel appliances, whereas Budapest relies heavily on decisions made by the central government. 🔢 Data availability. A crucial initial step is to assess the potential for renewable heat and draft a comprehensive inventory of the building stock. Understanding the current energy landscape within the city is essential and should involve collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including energy system operators. 🤝 Public awareness. Citizen engagement is vital f and any renewable alternatives must promote more stable and cost-effective energy bills. 🏰 Neighborhood approach: Many cities working on local heating and cooling plans are embracing integrated neighborhood concepts. This holistic approach is instrumental in addressing both energy and building challenges effectively. Energy Cities
✨ We are proud to share the success of the recent first European Workshop of REDI4HEAT project!
