📊 Funding Update for West and Central Africa 📊 49% 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 has been received as of December for the West and Central African responses. Did you know that only 0.2% of global humanitarian funding is allocated to anticipatory action, leaving vulnerable populations—especially children—exposed to crises that could be mitigated? The IGAD remains a hotspot for recurring crises, from climate shocks to conflicts, disproportionately affecting children. Without stronger systems and better alignment for anticipatory action, we simply react too late. As they say, action is only as good as the early warning. At the African Institute for Children Studies, we are committed to working closely with communities to ensure children aren't left behind. We partner with local actors to create child-centred anticipatory mechanisms, empowering families to prepare for and adapt to crises before they escalate. By strengthening these systems, we can safeguard children's futures and build resilience across regions. 🆕New in the library 📚  Assessing the Impact and Lessons from Cash Plus Interventions in Humanitarian Contexts in Mozambique In 2023, Save the Children International launched multiple "Cash Plus" pilot projects in Mozambique, combining cash transfers with targeted interventions to address childhood deprivation. Implemented in Cabo Delgado and Zambézia provinces, these projects focused on enhancing children's education and nutrition in crisis settings. This report highlights the success of these initiatives. Cash transfers effectively addressed essential needs, improving dietary diversity, reducing hunger, and facilitating school enrollment and retention. Supporting the #Flagship #Initiative in Niger The #RHFWCA has successfully launched a #Special #Allocation of $2 milion to support the piloting of the #Flagship #Initiative in #Niger (Diffa region). The initiative focuses on #reimagining and #transforming humanitarian action through innovative approaches that comprise systematic and participatory community engagement, area-based decentralized coordination, support for local initiatives, direct funding to local entities, and community-prioritized humanitarian planning.  While supporting a global initiative to improve the #quality of the humanitarian response, this allocation will also allow for addressing the most critical and urgent needs of and expressed by crisis-affected communities in #NGuigmi and #Chétimari communes in #Diffa region.

Elite Giving in Everyday Humanitarianism In Tanzania, elite citizens play an essential role in responding to both acute and ongoing crises, supplementing government and international humanitarian efforts with significant personal contributions. These elites frequently provide housing, employment support, and essential goods, though they often prioritize helping those they know. Our findings suggest that, despite a lack of incentives or formal support, elites step up in times of need, balancing social pressures with resource limitations. Their involvement highlights the potential of elite giving as a substantial, yet underutilized, asset in addressing Tanzania’s humanitarian needs, underscoring the importance of engaging elites in future policy and relief initiatives. The socioeconomic indicators at the Pakistan — Afghanistan regions are extremely low due to variety of reasons including its far-flung isolated geographical location, fragility and often neglected by the major development corridors. The local population lacks access to basic social services and economic opportunities. In 2015, SRSP and PATRIP Foundation joined hands together to help these communities and contribute to the objectives of socioeconomic development, peace and stability in the fragile and complex regions.
