What happens when every company has the same AI sales capabilities? Everyone's rushing to implement AI in sales. And for good reason. BCG's August 2024 report forecasts a staggering 1.8x margin impact through AI-driven revenue growth and efficiency gains: • AI sales avatars handling routine calls • Real-time negotiation support whispering the perfect response • Automated content generation crafting personalized pitches • Virtual assistants qualifying leads 24/7 Sound powerful? It is. Sound inevitable? It's that too. Just like CRM systems and sales automation before it, AI is about to become table stakes in enterprise sales. The capabilities BCG describes won't be competitive advantages—they'll be the cost of entry. Think about it: • 1990s: "We have a CRM!" • 2000s: "We use sales automation!" • 2010s: "We're data-driven!" • 2020s: "We have AI!" See the pattern? BCG gets several things exactly right: • The urgency is real—companies need to act now • Success is 90% about people and process, not just tech • The transformation of sales operations will be profound But they're missing the crucial next step in this evolution. When every company has AI analyzing calls, suggesting responses, and automating follow-ups... what then? When your competitor's AI is just as good at writing proposals and qualifying leads as yours... what sets you apart? The answer isn't in the technology. It's in how you augment it with distinctly human capabilities: • Uncovering needs a prospect didn't even know they had • Building genuine trust in complex, high-stakes deals • Reading subtle emotional cues in negotiations • Turning objections into advantages • Navigating organizational politics and relationships That’s where the real money’s at—not just implementing AI, but reimagining how your human talent can elevate beyond what AI will commoditize. The winners won't be the companies with the best AI chatbots or the most sophisticated automated content generators. They'll be the ones who best combine AI's efficiency with human insight. Who use it to free up people in sales to do the things that only humans are capable of right now— Build deep trust and meaningful relationships with other humans.

AI is redefining how we generate leads and close sales. . . . In today's sales and marketing world, artificial intelligence (AI) has become a pivotal force. Lead generation has become remarkably simpler with the aid of AI tools that automate and streamline many of the processes we used to handle manually. - Automated Data Gathering: AI helps collect and organize extensive data from various sources efficiently. This capability ensures that sales teams have access to high-quality, relevant data, providing a significant advantage. - Improved Lead Generation: The days of manually combing through data for leads are over. AI algorithms now identify potential leads based on their behavior and preferences, making this process more targeted and effective. - Efficient Communication: AI tools automate routine tasks such as sending emails and follow-ups, ensuring that every lead is engaged properly. This allows sales personnel to concentrate on more complex, strategic tasks that require human interaction. - Simplified Scheduling: AI-driven tools can manage scheduling by coordinating times, sending reminders, and rescheduling appointments as needed, streamlining calendar management without human input. - Customized Customer Interactions: AI analyzes customer data to tailor communication strategies, making interactions more personalized and significantly increasing conversion chances. AI enables us to predict market trends, understand customer behaviors more deeply, and engage with leads in previously unthinkable ways. Integrating AI into sales isn't about replacing the human element; it’s about augmenting it. It empowers us to be more strategic, more empathetic, and more successful. How are you using AI to revolutionize your sales tactics?

Every other sales tool is an AI tool today. Without proper evaluation these tools can waste a lot of SDR/AE time in: → targeting non-priority accounts → sending robotic "personalized" emails to prospects → figuring out what's not working The main issue isn't the tools themselves but how they address existing sales workflow challenges. Here are some of the key challenges: 1/ Randomly selecting and prioritizing target accounts. 2/ Handling an overload of signals and insights. 3/ Fake personalization (that anyone can smell from a mile out) in scaled outreach efforts 4/ Using generic and repetitive discovery questions in cold calls 5/ Using redundant and outdated insights for engagement Example 1 : An SDR pulls a lead list based on Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) criteria and starts contacting these accounts through emails, calls, and LinkedIn by using generic templates, which doesn't work anymore. Example 2: An SDR using a power dialer never knows who will pick up the call, making each call a surprise. As a result, they can only ask generic questions and deliver a generic pitch, which doesn't work anymore. With so many options available, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. However, with the right approach, you can identify the ones that best fit your needs. Below are few of the evaluation parameters: → Setup Time: How long will it take to set up the tool initially? → Booked Meetings: How effective is the tool in converting signals into booked meetings? → Comparison: How much time does it save compared to previous methods? → Process Customization: Can the tool be customized to fit your unique processes? We have written more about this in our newsletter “Evaluating a sales AI tool for Signal-led Prospecting”. Link in the comments below.

So lets talk about AI enabled sales. Hubspot released a report last year, where they surveyed ~650 sales pros about the use of AI in their sales process. More than 74% are currently using some form of AI and automation. On average they're saving about 2 hours (moderate IMO) on rudimentary tasks. More than them, their bosses are happy about it. AI is enabling sales-pros to spend more time nurturing relationships and closing rather than bearing the load of putting together lists, running campaigns, writing emails/messages from scratch, conducting company research and more. So if you're looking to get into sales, focus on on your people skills, improving IRL communication & professional hygiene. The future of sales will be dominated by those who will harmoniously integrate AI into their sales strategy. It's not an option anymore; it's an imperative. Unless you're selling lemons.

🌊 This Week’s Deep Dive AI and the Shifting Roles in Sales For the longest time, Sales Development Representatives played a major part in sales. But with the advent of AI, these roles are shrinking, while Account Executives (AEs) are becoming more prominent. This presents a whole new shift that is reshaping how companies approach lead generation and closing deals in order to keep up with the changing times. How Sales Teams Are Evolving: * AEs are now the primary sellers. * SDR positions are slimming down, with fewer teams in place. * AI and automation tools are replacing many SDR tasks. In Q3 2023, companies with fewer than 1,000 employees had about 35,000 SDRs. By Q3 2024, this dropped to roughly 32,000—a 6% reduction. The reason? AI and automation tools are handling many of the repetitive tasks traditionally done by SDRs, like outreach and prospecting. As a result, AEs are now frequently working in full-cycle roles, covering both lead qualification and closing. If your sales team hasn’t already adapted, now might be the time to explore the potential of AI-powered SDRs. The future of sales is happening right now—are you ready for it? AE + AI > AE + SDR Here’s how the modern sales team is transforming: Performance Matters AI SDRs don’t need sleep, never get frustrated, and run a playbook with unbreakable consistency. They go beyond traditional SDR capabilities, learning continuously and performing with the precision of an SDR with decades of experience. The results? Consistently high-quality output that drives performance. Cost Efficiency An AI SDR can cost up to 10 times less than a traditional SDR. There are no expenses for office space, sick leave, or subscriptions for sales tools. Efficiency and cost-effectiveness are reshaping how companies staff their sales teams, allowing businesses to streamline while improving results. Unlimited Scalability AI SDRs can manage multiple accounts and campaigns simultaneously, giving you the flexibility to adjust volume as needed. Whether scaling up or down, AI offers the capacity to meet demand without adding extra headcount. Adapt or Get Left Behind AI is forcing sales professionals to smarten up as they have to learn, adapt, and work hand in hand with these tools. In the same way, companies will have to capitalize on this shift to stay relevant and competitive and offer more value to their clients.
