We are accepting applications to join our WIMIN Leadership Committee at the World Molecular Imaging Society! This is an incredible opportunity for women in the molecular imaging field to take on a leadership role, shape the future of our community, and make a meaningful impact. Here’s what Jennifer Murphy, Ph.D., Associate Professor at UCLA, shared about her experience: “Starting in 2017, I have had active roles on the Leadership Committee of Women in Molecular Imaging Network (WIMIN). In 2020, I was elected to be the Co-Chair of WIMIN and became the Chair in 2021. My goal as Chair of WIMIN was to promote and recognize the professional and scientific accomplishments of women in molecular imaging sciences, particularly for women in underrepresented communities, who have demonstrated leadership, mentorship and advocacy of WIMIN’s goals and vision. Each year, for the World Molecular Imaging Congress (WMIC), the Leadership Committee would organize mentoring and networking opportunities to foster the career development and new opportunities for advancement of women in molecular imaging through all stages of their careers. The Leadership Committee brought together a diverse group of women in the imaging field, from all over the world, and was a fantastic avenue to meet inspiring women leaders as well as early-stage women scientists. Without a doubt, being part of WIMIN has been a highlight in my career as an Associate Professor at UCLA.” 📅 Term of Service: February 1, 2025 – January 31, 2028 (3 years) 📌 Application Deadline: December 20, 2024 If you're passionate about advancing women in molecular imaging and building connections within the field, we encourage you to apply! 👉 Find more information about WIMIN and the application process here: https://lnkd.in/gK5rpWEZ #WIMINLeadership #WIMIN_WMIS #WomenInScience #MolecularImaging #WomenInSTEM #LeadershipOpportunity #CareerDevelopment #AdvocacyInSTEM #STEMLeadership #DiversityInScience #NetworkingInSTEM #ScientificAdvancement #WMIC2025 #WomenInSTEM #MolecularImaging #WomenInScience #WIMIN #STEMCommunity

It’s not enough to inspire women to join the field; we need to equip them with the knowledge and tools to thrive in it. Next year, you can expect to see a greater emphasis on technical insights across everything we do. Whether it’s through Flipping The Barrel, new initiatives, or mentorship programs, our goal is to bridge the gap between inspiration and application. I & Massiel Diez will be hosting panels, leading technical discussions, and creating opportunities that delves into the specifics of how women can drive innovation in energy. From directional drilling and reservoir engineering to the role of emerging technologies like AI and automation in operations, these are the conversations we need to be having—not just at conferences but in everyday spaces where women can learn, contribute, and lead. To every woman out there: If you’ve been waiting for a sign to go after your dreams in technical fields, this is it. And we are here, alongside you, to make it happen. Let’s move forward, together.

I am going to say it.... I don't want my daughter to become a 'Woman in Science'. "But Victoria, you are a 'Woman in Science'!" I hear you say My point is this: 💥 I would love my daughter to become a 'Scientist'. 💥 BUT only if she is recognised for what she does and how she does it. That's it. The facts still remain:: 😢 Industry: In the global life sciences workforce, women make up only 10 per cent of boards and only 20 per cent of leadership teams - even though over half of entry level positions are filled by women. 😥 Academia: Women remain underrepresented on faculties of medicine and the broader life sciences. Even recent surveys show that the proportion of women declines at every career step, including promotion to full professorship. 😥 Biotech: Despite evidence that gender-diverse teams lead to stronger business outcomes, female-led start-ups receive significantly less funding. Scientists - We can do better! But until that day comes...I will continue to support women to achieve their full potential by: 💥 Calling out and challenging biases to ensure women have equal opportunities to pursue and thrive in scientific careers. 💥 Banging the drum to highlight the importance of providing access to coaching and mentoring - helping women to recognise their own worth, expect more and break down long standing limiting beliefs. 💥 Supporting the next generation to demand visibility and recognition, to achieve acknowledgment of their contributions to the field and in turn inspire future generations. I want my daughter and all other 'Women in Science' to get what they truly deserve: Respect, Recognition, Celebration, Support.... It's not much to ask is it? _______________________________ I'm Victoria, a scientist, a coach, a mother and a myriad of other messy human stuff. I am passionate about supporting Scientists (who happen to be women) to slay their saboteurs and own their brilliance. My next group coaching programme exclusively for Women in Science will start on May 14th (7:30-9pm GMT) and run on alternate Tuesdays for 3 months. If you are interested in exploring how you can be a part of something really special with a small group of like-minded women then drop me a note and I can tell you all about it. By the way...in true 8 year old style my daughter was looking at bird poo down the microscope.... ❤️ Your coach, Victoria www.beyond-the-noise.com victoria.j.higgins@gmail.com #coaching #groupcoaching #positivepsychologycoaching #beyou #accountability #beyondthenoise #womeninscience

🌟 Celebrating International Women’s Day: Overcoming the Matilda Effect in Science 🌟 🔬 At the Data Science Group Frankfurt, we recognise the invaluable contributions of women scientists and stand against the Matilda Effect—a bias that obscures their achievements by attributing them to male colleagues. 🌐 What is the Matilda Effect? The Matilda Effect is a phenomenon where the ground-breaking work of women scientists is overshadowed, dismissed, or even credited to their male counterparts. Despite their pivotal roles, these remarkable women often remain invisible in the annals of scientific history. 🌟 Shining a Light on Unsung Heroes: Real-Life Examples Let’s delve into some real-life instances that exemplify the Matilda Effect: 👩🔬🧪Lise Meitner: In 1945, Otto Hahn received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for discovering nuclear fission. But it was Lise Meitner, his long-time colleague, whose brilliance and essential contributions paved the way for this ground-breaking achievement. Sadly, she received no recognition. 👩🔬🩺Esther Lederberg: Esther Lederberg, a pioneering microbiologist, played a crucial role in genetic recombination and bacterial genome research. Yet, when the Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded in 1958, it bypassed her in favour of her husband and two male colleagues. Esther sat in the audience, her brilliance overlooked. 👩🔬🚀Jocelyn Bell Burnell: In 1967, astrophysicist Jocelyn Bell Burnell discovered pulsars—pulsating radio sources from neutron stars. Her doctoral supervisor, Antony Hewish, shared in the research. However, when the Nobel Prize for Physics was bestowed in 1974, it was Hewish alone who received the honour. Let’s amplify the voices of women scientists, celebrate their achievements, and ensure their rightful place in scientific history. Join us in breaking down barriers and promoting equality in STEM! 🌈 🔗 Read more about the Matilda Effect: https://lnkd.in/dbvzBCks #IWD2024 #WomenInScience #MatildaEffect
