🌱A new tree for every #WHS2024 participant: With #climate and #health high on the agenda at this year's World Health Summit, we're happy to share we've continued our partnership with Tree Adoption Uganda. By planting trees at health facilities in 🇺🇬 and teaching community health workers #CHWs about the topic, they help build climate adaptive and resilient health systems. 🌳A tree for each #WHS2024 participant is now growing in Uganda.

Yesterday on World Health Day, we recognised the critical importance of health equity and access to quality healthcare for all. In South Africa, where healthcare disparities persist, it's imperative to amplify efforts towards universal health coverage. SDG 3, Good Health and Wellbeing aims to prevent needless suffering from preventable diseases and premature death by focusing on key targets that boost the health of a country's overall population. In order to achieve this goal, we must unite; from private sector ,to government structures and individuals; to empower communities and build resilience, ensuring every individual has the opportunity to live a healthy life. 🌍💪 #WorldHealthDay #HealthForAll #GlobalHealth #SouthAfrica"

On #WorldHealthDay, let’s unite to defend the fundamental right to health. With diseases, disasters, and conflicts devastating lives and air pollution claiming a life every 5 seconds, the right to health is under threat worldwide. In #Africa, where 30% of children under 5 face stunting and 40% of women suffer from #irondeficiencyanemia, the urgency is clear. Despite health being recognized as a human right in many African constitutions, over half the population lacks full access to essential services. This year’s theme, #MyHealthMyRight, calls for action to ensure access to #qualityhealthcare, #education, #safedrinkingwater, #cleanair, #nutritiousfood, #adequatehousing, #fairworkingconditions, #environmentalsustainability, and #freedomfromdiscrimination. Let’s ensure #healthequity for all! 👉🏽 Explore the #GoodHealth section on our website here: https://lnkd.in/dAvX4-ZN 🎨: Tomi Abe #susinsight

Right now more than 20,000 health workers are discussing #Climate and #Health at #TeachToReach We asked #TeachToReach Contributor Pamela Njeru, an NGO health worker in Tharakanithi County, #Kenya how climate change is impacting the health of her community. “Climate change affects the community through an increase of illnesses and disruption of treatment. During the recent floods there was disruption of food, vaccines and medicine supply. The community wasn’t able to get enough food, clean water and medicine, those on treatment didn’t go to pick their medicine. Many of the TB affected people in the community were forced to interrupt treatment. This led to them starting treatment from zero again on the treatment schedule, this has affected them mentally and physically. I believe climate change is harming health because when TB treatment is interrupted it may cause death, resistant TB drug resistant TB or even multi-drug resistant TB. What I need to do is data collection in the community from those who are affected by the change of climate and also research more on the effects.” Join colleagues from all over the world to meet, network, and learn at Teach to Reach. To safeguard the health of women and newborns, it is imperative that we integrate climate considerations into our health programs and policies, work toward building #PrimaryHealthCare systems that can withstand climate shocks, and increase access to #SelfCare options that can make health care accessible during climate events. Conversely, women and newborns must be prioritized in the global climate response. "As global leaders gather at #COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan next month, I urge them to prioritize the health impacts of #ClimateChange, particularly on vulnerable groups." – Dr. Hannah Blencowe of LSHTM. At Africa Health Access, we’re committed to turning the tide on global health challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic has set back life expectancy by nearly a decade, revealed the recent UN report on the SDG3 , but we see this as a call to action. ☂ 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞: More than half the world lacks essential health services. Around the world, inequities in health prevent underserved populations from achieving their full potential. Climate change, conflict and the pandemic further expose the vulnerability of global health systems.
