Today's updated Closing the Gap data highlights that government action is failing to address the needs of First Nations children and families. Only 5 of 19 targets are on track, with some key targets going backwards. Children's Ground is implementing a model of First Nations-led systems change. The evidence is demonstrating that this model works to #CloseTheGap. We want to work together with state and federal governments to realise positive outcomes and close the gap. We have a First Nations-led model that works and we are inviting the government to partner with us directly, to change the status quo and deliver transformational change for First Nations people.

What an incredibly insightful discussion on communicating for reconciliation. Thanks SUADA for facilitating this important conversation with Naomi Moran, CEO of Koori Mail and Distinguished Professor Bronwyn Carlson from Macquarie University. And I am obsessed with Indi Dust's visual representation of the conversation! Top tips that were discussed in the webinar: 1. Tap into Indigenous media as a resource and show of allyship 2. Be brave and always ask the question if you don’t know 3. Actively seek out connections and communications with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples 4. ‘Nothing about us without us’ - if you’re communicating anything about or for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, make sure there is representation in the room 5. Build racial literacy into your online community guidelines to overcome irrelevant international standards and make sure you’re not just stopping racist commentary, but also addressing racist behaviours There are still heaps of opportunities to attend events this National Reconciliation Week: https://lnkd.in/gfGHbWTu #NRW2024 #NowMoreThanEver
What a turn out!! We were delighted to host so many comms and media professionals at our Communicate for Reconciliation webinar yesterday, where First Nations leaders Naomi Moran and Distinguished Professor Bronwyn Carlson shared their insights about how our communications can be strengthened to be more culturally safe and responsive, and how we can work together to create a more equitable future through the stories we tell. If you missed the webinar, head to https://lnkd.in/gbwikFed for the replay. And if you'd like to join our next webinar, the first in a series of SUADA Reconciliation Lunch + Learns, head to https://lnkd.in/g5wSRFvd to register your interest. A special thanks to Indi Dust for so beautifully capturing key insights and actions! #Reconciliation #NRW #NowMoreThanEver #Communications #PublicRelations

🏫 School is more than just a place for learning—it’s a source of routine, safety, and social connection. Yet, for many children and young people impacted by gender based violence, attending school can be a challenge. 🟣 Recent data shows school attendance rates in Scotland have declined to 90.2% in 2022/23, down from 93.7% in 2014/15. In our latest Delivering Equally Safe Impact report 📑, we explored innovative approaches by organisations like Dundee Women's Aid, who adapted their services to support children struggling with attendance. By working with families and schools, they implemented flexible measures, such as marking group attendance as school presence, and arranging alternative contact methods for non-attenders. These efforts don’t just address attendance; they rebuild trust, provide stability, and create opportunities for young people to thrive. 🙌 Collaboration between schools, families, and support organisations is critical to overcoming barriers to school attendance. 👉 Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/eJfZSJD9 #ImagineAScotlandWithoutVAWG

Last week at #PIACongress24, we made it our commitment to doing it differently, leading the Congress with First Stories First and making Planning with Country a key priority. Addressing the importance of First Nations voices in the industry and beyond, making a call for meaningful collaboration, for listening intentionally, and being proactive in taking a stand for traditional custodians. The theme of this year’s reconciliation week is ‘Now More Than Ever’. It is our role and responsibility as individual people, and as professionals in roles of change making, to make reconciliation an everyday commitment. A commitment to showing up to the discussion, pushing past fears of doing it imperfectly. A commitment to unlearn ways of old and relearn ways that protect community, culture and Country. #NRW2024 #PlanningwithCountry #nowmorethanever
