🚀 Meet one of our Sister Projects🚀 BIORADAR Project 🌟 #Bioradar and #BioINSouth share some important common ground: raise awareness and contribute to acknowledging the environmental and social impact of #biobased processes. Both co-funded under the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU), their vision is to incorporate circularity concepts into bio-based systems. How to accelerate the rate of technology development and adoption in a conservative sector subject to huge uncertainities and periodic politcisation? This, in my view, was the key question of the #GreenBio #Biotech meeting organised last week by the BioForum in Warsaw. After a period of immense growth and consolidation since the 1990's economic transformation and the 2004 EU accession, #Polish #Ag and Food sectors face the challenges of adaptation: although a lot of Polish food can still be deemed "organic" and thus cater to sophisticated local and international consumers, serious #AgTech will be needed to maintain yields sustainably in face of shifting weather patterns, soil and other environmental degradation, declines in pollinators, etc. The meeting brought together a substantial representation of AgTech users, but also several academic and governmental institutions (The National Centre for Research and Development, Ministry of Economic Development and Technology) - I was especially impressed with the vision of some of the ministries. Still, as is often the case in Europe, #VC was conspicuously absent, demonstrating that #innovation remains the domain of academic scientists supported by public funding (mostly for early stage work). As some attendees pointed out, there is also a dearth of large science-based companies in the country. I strongly believe that, as long as public investment remains the predominant driver of applied science, it ought to be offered past initial stages of company development. This is needed to encourage creation of viable technological solutions, significant growth, and expansion beyond the limited domestic market. Thanks to the organisers Konrad Hennig.
