The lessons of the war in Lebanon serve as a reminder that resilience in food systems is about more than access to resources; it’s about community, knowledge, and adaptability. By focusing on local production, reviving preservation techniques, strengthening community networks, prioritizing food safety, and fostering innovation, we can create food systems capable of withstanding future crises. These insights are not just for policymakers or food professionals—they are for everyone who values a secure and sustainable future. The next time we face challenges, we will be better prepared, armed with the wisdom of the past and the determination to move forward. Our country has reached its lowest food security level in over a decade. Today, on World Food Day, the Shoprite Group releases the South African Food Security Index 2024 to evaluate food security across four critical areas: availability, access, utilisation, and stability, highlighting the severe impact of economic and physical constraints on household hunger, particularly affecting children’s development. These insights are vital for informing the Group’s food-security programmes, an integral part of our sustainability efforts. By investing in initiatives like our Shoprite Mobile Soup Kitchens, community food gardens and supporting early childhood development (ECD) centres, we can contribute to a more food-secure future. #LetsActForChange #FoodSecurity

I recently had the pleasure of participating in a panel discussion with the Rhode Island Food Policy Council on the RI Food System Preparedness & Recovery Plan. This small group discussion spanned multiple sectors throughout Rhode Island and focused on optimizing the food supply, distribution, and communication network during a sustained disruption (as we experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic). Food security is a critical yet often overlooked issue, and many of us take it for granted. Disruptions to our communication networks could have devastating consequences. In a crisis, how will we ensure reliable information reaches the public, guide farmers' production decisions, coordinate efficient distribution, and manage public demand at distribution centers? These interconnected elements and the essential workers who support them deserve greater attention and preparation. The potential for food insecurity demands serious consideration and proactive solutions. As someone who experienced food insecurity firsthand during the pandemic, I'm grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with a passionate team on this issue. Rhode Island's initiative to address this potential crisis is commendable and necessary. #rhodeislandfoodsystem #rhodeisland #foodsystem #emergencypreparedness #foodsecurity

The NNDDC Food Connections page is a brand new digital home that strives to capture the broad scope of food sovereignty and food security work that has been prioritized by NNDDC. This is a place to read our stories, learn more about our food systems, share your ideas, and celebrate our relationships with food. As we take a moment to celebrate this milestone, we are compelled to acknowledge the context in which we are sharing this work. As our Nation’s leaders strive towards action and advocacy for environmental justice, we know that this is one more threat in an ongoing history of colonial violence that disrupts and harms our Traditional and vital food systems. This most recent disaster is a reminder that now more than ever our work in building and protecting our Nation’s food sovereignty is and must be an organizational priority. World Food Day, 2024 is on October 16; it is a day to promote the "Right to Food for a Better Life and a Better Future" and to raise awareness of food security. Though enough food is produced to feed everyone on the planet, 811 million people suffer from hunger worldwide today. This disparity highlights the necessity of fair access and sustainable food systems. Participate in volunteer work at neighbourhood food banks, push legislation that promotes food security, and raise awareness of this vital issue. By working together, we can create a world in which there is no hunger! #FoodDay #Food #WorldFoodDay2024 #Pakistan #GlobalObservanceDay #JoinELearningEducationAndTrainings #ELearningEducationAndTrainings
