Did you know that nearly one-third of eligible voters have chosen not to participate in recent elections? This statistic highlights the significant number of citizens who either do not vote or whose votes are invalidated, both of which can impact election outcomes. A voter turnout of around 71% is not necessarily "bad," but it is lower than ideal, especially in a country where voting is a crucial democratic right. Various factors, including voter apathy, dissatisfaction with the political process, or logistical barriers, can influence voter turnout. This can be concerning for the health of our democracy. Higher voter turnout typically suggests greater public engagement and legitimacy for the elected government. It's important to research the candidates and, most of all, ensure that you exercise your democratic right by casting your vote to elect a leader who has the best interests of the citizens at heart! #YouthAgainstCorruption #YouthForChange #YouthEngagement #FightCorruption #AntiCorruption #SriLanka

🇮🇳𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈𝐬 𝐀𝐧 𝐄𝐱𝐢𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐥? You might have heard or seen the term exit polls every time during elections. But what does it mean? Let me tell you. After voting and an 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬, a 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐯𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐝 by media persons and they ask them who they voted for along with other factors that they influenced during their voting decision. Now what this does is, this helps us in getting a sense of how the public voted and predict potential election results. And this process is what is known as 𝐄𝐱𝐢𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐬. Now, predicting these election results through exit polls is legal, but according to the election rules, 𝐄𝐱𝐢𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐬 can only be conducted after voting in every constituency is over. Private agencies and 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 maybe do this by selecting a random sample size, which could range between 𝟐𝟓,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐭𝐨 𝟖 𝐥𝐚𝐤𝐡 𝐯𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬. And although they are used to predict election results, exit polls don't give an accurate picture every time. #ExitPolls #VoterAnalysis #ElectionPredictions #PublicOpinion #ElectionResults #PoliticalInsights #ElectionDay #Election2024

(Dis)Trust in Elections: Identifying Who Distrusts the Election Process & Why - PDF: https://lnkd.in/gENbxKFA Distrust in the election process isn’t a new problem, and it will take more than a quick fix to reverse. Distrust among conservative-leaning and independent voters is highest after votes are cast (when they’re collected and counted, and when a winner is chosen). As such, efforts to rebuild voter confidence and trust should focus on informing and reassuring voters about the process after ballots are cast and the protections that are in place to preserve integrity. However, these efforts should take place in the time leading up to elections to preemptively begin building trust in the process as early as possible. Remember: Building trust with these voters will take time. Rather than a one-and-done strategy, it will be key to reach these voters with strategic messaging, delivered by sources they trust, consistently and over time. This report provides a clearer understanding of the root cause(s) of this distrust among our ideal and potentially moveable audience (conservative-leaning and independent voters). #MAGA #Democracy #backsliding #antimajoritarian #authoritarian #Trump #USPolitics #insurrection #electiondenialism #radicalright #AmericanConservatives #trumpism #collectivenarcisism #autocracy

"How important is it to you to vote in the upcoming election?" Research suggests that posing this question and others like it seem to be effective in increasing voter turnout in elections. (See: https://lnkd.in/gaH5Yeia) Todd Roger's research on voter turnout has also unearthed the fascinating-to-me finding that "I forgot" is the most common reason registered voters cite for not casting their votes on election day. Of course, being registered to vote is a precursor, so consider this your personal reminder to register. And, if you want to ensure that you don't forget, take a moment to put a reminder on your calendar for November 5. https://vote.gov/register [Note: I am posting this message after-hours in my personal capacity and not as a representative of my institution. That being said, I do teach Rogers' research in my "Living with Agency" course because I'm really interested in forgetting and how we might increase our capacity to remember.]

🗳️ Did You Know Runoff Elections Often Have Lower Turnout? 🗳️ Let's change that! Early voting starts June 10th and Election Day is June 18th. Check your voter status and see if you need to vote in the runoff by visiting the Georgia My Voter Page at www.mvp.sos.ga.gov. What is Voter Turnout? Voter turnout refers to the percentage of eligible voters who cast a ballot in an election. High voter turnout is a sign of a healthy democracy, reflecting active citizen participation. Why is Runoff Voter Turnout Low? Runoff elections typically see lower turnout due to voter fatigue and the timing of these elections, often occurring after the excitement of the initial election has subsided. As part of the Georgia Black Expo's commitment to Political and Civic Engagement, we strive to advocate for active participation in the democratic process and empower our community to make their voices heard through voting and civic involvement. Your vote matters! Make a difference and ensure your voice is heard. #RunoffElection #Vote2024 #GBE2024 #PoliticalEngagement #CivicEngagement

The pivotal role of voter turnout in shaping the 2024 election outcome: https://lnkd.in/dtp-6y8t As 29 May approaches, with widespread speculation surrounding the potential performance of political parties in the upcoming national and provincial elections, the pivotal determinant of success rests on getting voters to the polling stations. Those parties with the ability to effectively mobilise their voter base and inspire supporters to cast their ballots may hold an advantage over those that fail to engage their supporters and neglect to prioritise voter turnout initiatives. A low voter turnout scenario – in which only the most committed voters participate – could see between 41% and 43% of registered voters heading to the polls. In a medium turnout scenario, the model indicates that the voter turnout rate may be between 57% and 59%. On the high end, Ipsos’ projections suggest that as many as 74% to 76% of registered voters could cast their ballots if voter enthusiasm reaches its peak.

As the 2024 presidential election draws near, a new poll further illustrates the ever-growing divide among Americans about the nation's trajectory and the critical issues influencing voter decisions, including almost a quarter of Republican Donald Trump supporters saying that he should declare election results invalid and "do whatever it takes to assume office if he loses" in November. The survey of over 5,000 Americans reveals that a majority reject political violence and perceive democracy as being under threat. However, a sizable percentage of Americans, particularly Republicans who view Trump favorably, still support political violence and deny the legitimacy of the elections.
