The times our board members get together is always filled with great ideas and an overflow of knowledge. Our board members recently met up over the past week and discussed the plans and course of action for Youthnet 2025 and we can't wait to start these initiatives and continue to have a positive impact on the families that we support in the years to come! #youthnethappenings #fostering #children #youth #families #community #local #bettertogether #westernwashington #washingtonnonprofits #supporteachother #humanservices

To train up a child... This is our future. Establishing the value and importance of early screening and treatment will be the way moving forward in our next generation
Good vision changes everything for children — it allows them to properly see the board, fully participate and develop skills. Nosipho Zama volunteered at our recent clinic in Cape Town, South Africa and shared how rewarding it is to give the gift of vision, especially to children that are being set up for a path of greater success and confidence. Learn more about why she volunteers in this video. #VolunteerMonth #iVolunteer

There is an African proverb that says, "A Mother is incomparable". While we cannot deny the incredible role our mothers play, we also need to celebrate the communities and individuals who show up for our children. In countries like South Africa where nearly 60% of mothers are raising their children without their biological fathers, the concept of "Collective Mothering" has become a reality in so many homes and communities. Collective mothering refers to a community-based approach to caregiving where multiple individuals, beyond just biological mothers, participate in raising and nurturing children. In socioeconomically marginalised communities, where resources and support systems may be limited, collective mothering can involve extended family members, neighbours, or community elders helping to care for and support children. This approach recognises that the responsibility for raising children is shared among the community, fostering a sense of solidarity and mutual support among caregivers ❤ https://lnkd.in/dyjUvzp2 #mothers #collectivemothering #community #earlyyearsdevelopment

Breaking Barriers: Empowering Street and Homeless Children for a Better Tomorrow! On this International Street Children Day, let's shed light on the realities faced by these resilient young souls. While 'street children' and 'homeless children' are sometimes used interchangeably, there are important distinctions between the two. Not all homeless children live openly on the streets; many find themselves in hidden circumstances, such as sleeping on floors or in temporary accommodations like hostels. Shockingly, in 2018, around 9,500 children in the UK spent Christmas in hostels or temporary housing, often facing cramped living conditions and sharing facilities with strangers. Join us in raising awareness about this issue and providing essential support to empower street and homeless children. Together, we can break barriers, create equal opportunities, and build a brighter future for every child in need. #StreetChildrenDay #HomelessChildren #BreakingBarriers #RaisingAwareness #SupportingChildren #BuildingABetterFuture #EmpoweringYouth #MakingADifference #ChildrensRights #EqualOpportunities #SocialImpact #EndChildHomelessness #CharityWork

✨This holiday season, give the ultimate gift of freedom✨ Over 2.5 billion people worldwide need assistive technology, and the effect is extreme in areas where poverty, disability, and rurality intersect. In East Africa, the need for wheelchairs, standing frames, walking frames, and other assistive devices is urgent and profound. Without these essential tools, thousands of children face immense barriers to health, education, rehabilitation, and social participation. A bamboo wheelchair is more than just a mobility aid—it’s a lifeline. It enables children with disabilities to attend school, make friends, and experience the joys of childhood, breaking the cycle of isolation and dependence. 💡Every donation, no matter the size, is a step towards equal opportunities and bright futures. The Forgotten Children: Mihăiță’s Story and a Call for Action In Romania, the cracks in our social welfare system are far too wide, and the consequences are devastating for the most vulnerable among us—children in state care. Many of these children are labeled "unadoptable" because they have severe disabilities. They live in overcrowded institutions, sometimes 25 children crammed into a single room, without proper care, attention, or even the basic necessities of life. Their childhoods are marked by neglect, not because the caregivers don’t care, but because the system is overwhelmed, underfunded, and broken. One story stands out today—that of Mihăiță, a young boy who has been in foster care for the past four years. In that time, he found stability, love, and a chance at a better life. But recently, the government decided that Mihăiță is “too much of an expense” and relocated him to a facility I cannot, in good conscience, describe as habitable. Mihăiță is not just a number in a budget or a file in a cabinet. He is a child, full of potential, and deserving of love, care, and dignity. What kind of society are we building when children like Mihăiță are pushed into the shadows because they are deemed “too costly”? This decision is heartbreaking, but it’s not an isolated case—it reflects a larger systemic failure. What’s even more disheartening is the lack of urgency from the authorities. These children don’t have time to wait. But we don’t have to be powerless. We can make a difference. Local communities could foster inclusion, donate resources, or provide volunteer support. Businesses could partner with NGOs to sponsor better living conditions and rehabilitation programs. Each of us could raise our voices, demand accountability, and advocate for systemic reform. Right now, I am asking for help—for Mihăiță and for the countless other children like him. Whether through donations, advocacy, or amplifying this message, every small act matters. If you want to help or know someone who can, please reach out. Together, we can fight for Mihăiță and for the dignity of every child in the system. Let’s start the conversation and take action—together. #ChildWelfare #SocialJustice #ForgottenChildren #Romania #HumanRights #CommunitySupport #Advocacy #NGOs #FosterCare #Inclusion #DignityForAll #MakeADifference
