Tracing the history of the mental health of people who identify as women and those of other marginalized genders is complex. One reason is that the definition of what’s considered to be a diagnosable mental illness over the centuries has changed significantly, influenced by culture, religion, societal context, and other factors. Regardless, one thing is consistently clear: Throughout history, the mental health of women and others who do not identify as men has frequently been misunderstood, stigmatized, neglected, and worse. Although progress has been made, there are still challenges and problems to address as we continue to move forward. #womenshealth #womenshistorymonth #womensmentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness https://bit.ly/3T2tTAs

One sentence. One sentence describes why 99% of people seek therapy: People don’t get their needs met. Almost everyone I’ve counseled - from students to corporate employees to psychedelic journeyers - everyone says the same thing: “I’m not getting my needs met.” How are they not? There isn’t enough safety, love, or joy. Why are they not? We’ve set up society to deprive these things. What do we do? Reallocate and restore balance in a world of real, present abundance. Therapy is a great way to build safety, love, and joy, but it’s not going to solve most things on its own. Consider environmental factors in every mental health conversation. Advocate for equitable resource distribution, community, and care, lest we continue failing to meet peoples' needs.
