The European Union is taking significant steps to support critical technologies through the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP), launched in March 2024. This initiative aims to boost investments in vital sectors such as #digital technologies, clean energy, and biotechnology by pooling resources from various EU funding programs, including Horizon Europe, the European Regional Development Fund, and InvestEU. STEP not only addresses the need for innovation, but also focuses on reducing Europe's dependence on external suppliers, enhancing value chains, and tackling labour shortages in these critical sectors. With up to €50 billion mobilized. This initiative is crucial for Europe's green and digital transitions. https://lnkd.in/g_knVgG2

Our new report just launched! "The global net-zero industrial race is on – A wake-up call for a powerful Clean Industrial Deal." Europe is trailing in the net-zero race against the US and China. A strong Clean Industrial Deal is critical to safeguard Europe's economic future. Investment: Europe remains the second-largest destination for net-zero investments, but faces an upcoming funding gap. Mobilising €668 billion Competitiveness Fund by 2040 to support the green transition. Innovation: The US is leading in cleantech innovation, attracting 1/3 of global venture capital funding for clean energy startups. American companies will probably shape future markets. Europeans can step up on innovation to avoid lagging behind. Manufacturing: China wants to become a monopoly for clean tech manufacturing, leveraging economies of scale and subsidies. This poses a serious risk for the European industry. Building value chains in Europe and supporting EU-made products will be key. Jobs: The net-zero transition is not only about industries and technology, it is about job creation too. The net-zero sector is one of the most dynamic job creation sectors in these economies and can create 2.1 million green jobs in Europe by 2040. 📊 Discover our full report: https://lnkd.in/ehYcm284 Neil Makaroff, Aymeric KOUAM T., Linda Kalcher, Sara Benedetti Michelangeli #StrategicEU

What place will Europe find in the global competition for #cleantech manufacturing with China and the United States? More importantly, what place will the European Union find in the most consequential industrial and economic shift that is shaping the 21st century? Strategic Perspectives' latest report released today looks at this global race for investments, innovation, manufacturing and job creation among the world's three biggest economies. It finds that the EU remains in second place for clean tech investments behind China, but ahead of the US despite the boost provided by the Investment Reduction Act. But to keep this position, the report finds that the EU will need to accelerate investments into a new industrial policy as it still trails the US in innovation. China for its part remains the dominant power on cleantech manufacturing, as it seeks to achieve a monopoly on supplying the growing global markets. Congratulations to Linda Kalcher, Neil Makaroff, Aymeric KOUAM, and Sara Benedetti Michelangeli for their great insights into this critical debate for the future of Europe.
