Hiring Right and Retaining Willing Skill sets. Skill set needs set the culture of every organizational practice. Farming in particular, getting the right skill set can be more challenging. Skill set availability tends to be time sensitive. Yet, engaging the right skill set has more to do with the stage of the farm and the skill set's motivation than it has to do with availability. Circumspection in engaging skill sets that resonate the culture aspirations and values that the farm tends to deliver is the criteria for labeling a skill set right option or not. Engaging a skillset is much easing to keeping a skill set employed on the farm. 1.It is easy to hire a dumb person but harder to hire a smart person. 2.It is hard to recruit a willing employee, but it is easy to keep such employee. 3.It is easy to employ a skillful employee but it is hard to keep such employee. 4.It is easy to employ a novice but costly to develop. It tends out that the stage of the farm and the motivations of the skill set determines if a skill set is a right choice or will stay with the farm. #RightHiring #FarmHiring #SkillsetHiring #FarmingSkillset

Here are some tips to make your farm job resume stand out:Emphasize Relevant Experience: Include any hands-on experience with farming, animal care, equipment operation, or crop management. Specifics, like “operated a tractor for field cultivation” or “managed daily feeding and care of livestock,” can help showcase your expertise.Highlight Physical and Technical Skills: Farming requires both physical endurance and technical know-how. Mention your ability to perform physically demanding tasks, as well as any skills related to equipment maintenance, irrigation systems, or planting techniques.Include Certifications and Training: If you have any certifications—such as pesticide application, first aid, or farm machinery operation—make sure they are prominently displayed. This can give you a competitive edge.Showcase Soft Skills: Don’t forget to highlight soft skills like teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability. Farm work often involves working closely with a team and dealing with unexpected challenges like weather changes or equipment breakdowns.Keep It Clear and Concise: A farm job resume doesn’t need to be complicated. The Citrus Academy periodically conducts a skills survey amongst all employers in the citrus industry to determine current and future skills and employment trends. This data is used when the industry reports to government and other stakeholders. In addition, it has come to our attention that there are skills shortages developing in some regions, in particular in occupations such as farm and packhouse managers, quality control staff and technical staff. It is critical that we gather information on these shortages so that we can plan ahead and assist. Please go to https://lnkd.in/gWF3uRiS to complete the survey. Please note that the questionnaires in the survey can be completed online or by downloading and completing fillable PDF documents, which can also be downloaded on the webpage. Furthermore, there are separate questionnaires for farms, packhouses, nurseries and other enterprises (holding or management companies, processing units, etc.). A separate questionnaire must be completed for each business unit. Please read the instructions on the webpage carefully. Your participation in this survey is critical and sincerely appreciated. If you have any questions or comments, please contact sive@citrusacademy.org.za.
