- Reflecting on My Time Working in Singapore - I just started a new consulting project in Singapore, and I’m already experiencing the dynamic and challenging work environment that this vibrant city has to offer. The city’s pace is exhilarating, but it comes with its unique set of challenges, especially in achieving work-life balance. Here are some key learnings for anyone embarking on a similar journey: 1. Embrace the Culture: Singapore is a melting pot of cultures, and understanding local customs and business etiquette is crucial. Take the time to learn and appreciate the diverse perspectives within your team and clients. 2. Effective Team Mobilization: As a project lead, it's vital to foster a sense of unity and purpose within your team. Regular check-ins, clear communication, and setting realistic expectations can go a long way. Encourage open dialogue and make sure everyone feels heard and valued. 3. Transitioning Ways of Working: Adapting to the local work style is essential. In Singapore, efficiency and precision are highly valued. Implement structured workflows and leverage technology to streamline processes. Be flexible and open to new methods, and lead by example to instill these practices in your team. 4. Prioritize Personal Health and Sleep: The demanding work culture can take a toll on your health. Make it a point to set boundaries and stick to them. Schedule downtime, engage in regular physical activity, and ensure you get adequate sleep. Remember, a well-rested mind is more productive and creative. 5. Balance is Key: Finding the right balance between work and personal life is an ongoing process. Don’t be afraid to delegate and trust your team. Encourage them to also maintain a healthy balance. A happy team is a productive team. Working in Singapore has been an eye-opening experience, filled with professional growth and personal insights. It has reinforced the importance of balance and the power of a cohesive, well-supported team. For those heading to a client site on a consulting project, I hope these insights help you navigate the exciting journey ahead. Here's to embracing new challenges, learning continuously, and thriving together! #WorkLifeBalance #ConsultingLife #Singapore #TeamLeadership #ProfessionalGrowth #HealthAndWellness #CulturalDiversity

Coming after the Asia iCSU Offsite to work this week, wanted to drop a line to my amazing team that I am filled with immense pride and gratitude 🙏 . Each one of you has contributed significantly to our collective success, and this offsite is a celebration of your hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment. I am sharing the note I shared with my team as I am proud of how they came, collaborated, made it memorable, inspiring, participated with energy and pride to make this offsite a massive success. Still in #phuketoffsite mode mentally. ----------------- This year has been nothing short of remarkable. We've tackled challenges, embraced massive change, and achieved milestones that once seemed distant or even impossible. Together, we've forged new paths, learned from setbacks, and grown stronger. Our journey is not just about numbers or metrics; it's about the impact we create, the relationships we nurture, and the value we bring to our customers. Culture is the heartbeat of any organization. It's the invisible force that shapes our actions, decisions, and interactions. As a team, we've fostered a culture of collaboration, empathy, and innovation. Let's continue to uphold these values, supporting one another and lifting each other higher. Remember, our culture isn't just what we say—it's what we do every day. Our customers are at the core of everything we do. They rely on us for solutions, guidance, and trust. Let's deepen our understanding of their needs, challenges, and aspirations. By truly listening and empathizing, we can create meaningful experiences that resonate long after the transaction is complete. Customer depth isn't a buzzword; it's our commitment to excellence. Success is sweeter when shared. We win as a team, and we learn as a team. Let's celebrate victories together, learn from setbacks together, and keep pushing boundaries together. Our collective strength lies in our diversity—diverse skills, backgrounds, and perspectives. Let's harness this richness to achieve greatness. As we embark on the next phase of our journey ahead, let's stay hungry, stay curious, and stay united. There are new horizons to explore, challenges to conquer, and opportunities to seize. The report highlighted that KL ranked fifth among Asian cities, behind Singapore, Tokyo, Bangkok, and Beijing. Had an incredible experience at the Future of Work APAC Conference in Singapore last week! This event was refreshing and an eye-opener, emphasizing the critical importance of maintaining an external orientation in our professional journeys. In my 13 years with the same organization, I've grown tremendously, thanks to a strong internal orientation. Having taken on 6 roles across three countries, I’ve seen firsthand how internal opportunities foster deep understanding and expertise. Now, I feel more inspired to blend this with an external perspective to drive innovation and growth within Schindler. My reflections on importance of External Orientation: - Industry Insights: Staying updated on trends and innovations across industries fuels creativity and strategic thinking. - Continuous Learning: Constantly expanding our knowledge base through networking and learning opportunities keeps us adaptable and future-ready. - Competitive Edge: Understanding what's happening beyond our immediate environment helps us anticipate changes and stay ahead of the curve. - Enhanced Collaboration: Building a diverse network fosters collaboration and opens doors to new partnerships and ideas. #FutureOfWork #ExternalOrientation #ContinuousLearning #Networking #Innovation #CareerGrowth #Schindler

Oh no.. Malaysia 🇲🇾 has lost our top talent to Singapore 🇸🇬 As Malaysia's workforce increasingly seeks opportunities abroad, particularly in Singapore, it's crucial to explore the positive impacts of this trend. (#CareerGrowth #CrossBorderOpportunities #RegionalIntegration) One significant benefit is the exposure to diverse industries and experiences that Singapore offers. Malaysians working here gain access to cutting-edge technologies, innovative work environments, and international networks, enhancing their skill sets and career prospects. (#SkillsDevelopment #GlobalNetworks #ProfessionalGrowth) Moreover, the integration of the high-speed rail between Singapore and Malaysia promises to further facilitate cross-border mobility. This development will not only streamline daily commutes but also foster closer economic ties, opening up new avenues for collaboration and talent exchange. (#Connectivity #EconomicIntegration #Mobility) Across Asia, other countries have similarly embraced the global movement of talent. Leading global companies often have foreigners in top management positions, reflecting the value of diversity and cross-cultural perspectives in driving innovation and success. (#DiversityInLeadership #GlobalWorkforce #Innovation) While the brain drain narrative often dominates discussions, it's essential to recognize the positive aspects of Malaysians working in Singapore. By leveraging cross-border opportunities and embracing regional integration, both countries can foster mutual growth and prosperity in the evolving global landscape. (#MutualGrowth #RegionalProsperity #CrossBorderCollaboration) In conclusion, the future looks promising as Malaysians continue to seek opportunities beyond borders. By harnessing the potential of cross-border collaboration and embracing diversity in the workforce, both Malaysia and Singapore can navigate challenges and thrive in the interconnected world economy. My Recent Trip to Singapore: Key Takeaways I just wrapped up a few days in my old home, Singapore. I had the chance to speak with many business associates and customers about the market. Despite last year's challenges, it’s clear that green shoots are appearing. Everyone I talked to was positive and tracking ahead of schedule. Here are some of my key takeaways: 1. Singapore as a Talent Magnet: Singapore remains the go-to hub for hiring in Southeast Asia. It’s where top talent wants to be, and companies are keen to hire here for now… 2. Buzz Around Indonesia and Vietnam: Conversations about Indonesia and Vietnam have intensified. These markets were always on the radar when I lived in Singapore, but now they’re top of mind for many businesses. 3. Japan's Unique Market: We're frequently asked about hiring in Japan. It’s a crucial market—resilient and candidate-driven, but also tough to find the right people. We do operate in Japan, but due to the complexity, we work on different rates. 4. Optimism in China: There’s a general sense that things are improving in China, which is crucial for the region. While no one is entirely sure, the news seems more positive, and there’s cautious optimism. 5. Cost of Living in Singapore: This was a hot topic. The high cost of living is impacting Singapore’s appeal as a destination and center of excellence. Interestingly, Dubai is being mentioned more frequently as a viable alternative, a trend I started to notice back in 2021. 6. Shift Back to Hong Kong: Many mentioned a trend of professionals moving back to Hong Kong. The cost of living in Singapore likely plays a big role in this shift. 7. Tech Sector Recovery: The tech sector in the region is certainly bouncing back. Most people I spoke to felt positive about its recovery. 8. Bustling City Life: It was fantastic to see Singapore vibrant and bustling again. The city feels alive, which is a great sign of resilience. Overall, it was a very positive trip. I’ll be back soon as we prepare for our upcoming creative event. Stay tuned for more details! Starting in December, employers across Singapore are required to have processes in place to consider formal requests for Flexible Work Arrangements (FWAs) from employees, offering a more adaptable and inclusive work environment. Interestingly, this regulatory change has sparked discussions among employers about the potential benefits of hiring overseas talent. Many see this as an opportunity to enhance their teams with a broader range of perspectives, skills, and experiences. By embracing a more global approach to talent acquisition, businesses in Singapore can tap into a rich pool of international talent, fostering innovation and diversity within their organizations. These developments signify a shift towards a more inclusive and dynamic job market in Singapore. This evolution reflects Singapore's commitment to embracing global talent and creating a vibrant, cosmopolitan workforce that thrives on diversity and innovation. 5 shocks a Malaysian talent shared with me after spending years in France. What is the real challenge of coming back from Paris? Returning to Malaysia can be full of surprises. It’s not just about adjusting to the heat or the food. It’s about navigating a workplace and society that has evolved differently from what you’ve grown accustomed to abroad. Here are these five challenges: 1️⃣ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘃𝗶𝗯𝗲 At first glance, Malaysia feels less rushed. Perhaps it’s the hot weather, but people seem more relaxed. ↳ It’s a stark contrast to the French capital’s fast-paced streets. 2️⃣ 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 Like France, Malaysia is multicultural. Many French companies have talents with various backgrounds who successfully interact with each other. ↳ But explaining to Parisians that Chinese Malaysians don't eat the same food and don't have the same attitude toward hierarchy as Chinese nationals is a bit challenging. 3️⃣ 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 Despite the lower cost of living in Malaysia, local salaries often don’t match the qualifications. ↳ This explains why many Malaysians seek opportunities overseas—Local packages just aren’t competitive. It's a serious matter for companies which tend to improve their employer brand. 4️⃣ 𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 Malaysians often blend personal and professional lives. It’s common to maintain friendships outside of work (hot weather may help). ↳ Very surprising for French nationals who build clear work-life boundaries. 5️⃣ 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 Talented Malaysian returnees can intimidate local managers who might fear of losing control leading sometimes to aggressive attitude ↳ This can be hard for professionals who are used to more inclusive and respectful workplaces to navigate. 𝘖𝘧 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦, 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘣𝘦 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘯 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺. But life can be turned upside down for some returning Malaysians Are you a returnee or an employer managing this transition? Building Bonds Beyond the Office Walls 🌟 We organised a special team-building event for the Singapore contracting sales team and assignment support team. We took to the vibrant streets of Chinatown, Singapore, forming different teams to complete a series of engaging tasks. The objective was clear: foster an environment where every team member could showcase and leverage their unique strengths. It wasn't just about ticking off tasks; it was about connecting on a personal level. Through this activity, we aimed to see each other beyond our professional roles and truly get to know the person behind the desk. The experience was enriching. We discovered personal anecdotes and histories that have shaped our colleagues. These shared moments and insights have not only deepened our understanding of one another but also strengthened our bond, making our teamwork more cohesive and resilient. 🎉 #TeamBuilding #OfficeCulture #NESFircroft
