5 Most Common Objections Why People Can’t Commit

I've had one of the most productive weeks of my life, and it's funny how, when you love being a student, you can often study too much. But the key to success isn't just learning—it's implementing what you've learned.

Why You Should Read This

My LinkedIn newsletter, Self-Development Tips, has 2,138 subscribers. I regularly share tips for people passionate about personal growth. If you're looking for practical advice on productivity and mindset, this is for you.

Recently, I attended a group training with Ian Koniak ’s Untap Your Sales Potential , and he emphasized the importance of focusing on revenue-generating activities. It's easy to get distracted. Are we doom-scrolling through LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram, Meta, or X? What we train at UYSP are habits, discipline, and having impactful executive conversations.

One thing I've learned is the power of turning off notifications and putting my phone on DND (Do Not Disturb) mode during work hours. This helps me enter a flow state more frequently, allowing me to stay in a rhythm without distractions.

One of the most common objections I hear in sales is: "I don't have the money to pay for this." Well, if you're barely hitting quota, of course, you're not going to have the funds. But what if you were hitting 200% of your number? In tech sales, that could mean adding $200K-$300K on top of your current earnings, which might already be between $180K and $260K. We are fortunate to live in a society where that kind of income is even possible.

The five most common objections I hear are about timing, major purchase decisions, or people saying their organization doesn't offer that kind of earning potential. But one of the best things about this community is the network. Everyone who has been in corporate knows that networking is more than half the game, and like any other skill, it can be learned.

Networking Tips for Success

Here are a few networking tips that have worked for me as someone who has been obsessed with it from day one:

1. Connect with everyone. My uncle Felix once told me, “Be nice to everyone; you never know who they’ll become.” I've taken this to heart and have been lucky to meet thousands of incredible people at events, seminars, and personal development programs. Some of them are doing amazing things in the world. It’s inspiring to surround yourself with people who think differently. Think deeply about this. You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.

Like it or not, if you aren’t happy in the situation you are then take a look at who you are surrounding yourself with.

2. Start a podcast—it’s a cheat code. Hosting a podcast allows you to interview successful people and network with those you might not normally have access to. This allowed me to interview 30+ president club winners most of which who I have never met before.

3. Always follow up. Some people worry about appearing desperate, but there’s a balance. Always give more than you take. If people aren’t returning your calls, it’s a sign you may be asking for too much without offering enough in return. I've been guilty of this too, especially when in survival mode and thinking only of myself.

4. Respect the seasons. There will be times when you want to socialize more, and other times when you need to reflect and be introspective. Learn to balance both.

5. Check your intentions. If you're networking from a place of lack or desperation, people can sense that. Networking won’t solve all your problems, but building genuine relationships can open doors.

Common Sales Objections and Mindset Shifts

The third most common objection I hear is: "I haven’t hit my number lately." It’s easier to sell when you’re with a company that has brand recognition.

But doing the same things over and over and expecting different results is insanity.

Sometimes I want to shake people and say, “You signed up for this webinar for a reason! It's time to break free from the habits that got you here in the first place.” It takes a leap of faith, but it’s ultimately an investment in yourself.

The fourth common objection is when people jump from company to company, blaming external factors. When you focus on what you can control, that’s when you start moving the needle. I was a victim of this most of my life as well, where I always made excuses is to why I left. “It wasn’t the right product, market fit, or lack of brand equity, etc. There will always be pros and cons to everything. Notice how some people are able to make lemonade with lemons while some people spend their whole life anger at why life is so hard.”

The fifth objection is the lack of time. Elon Musk, Oprah, Bill Gates—they all have the same 24 hours we do. Why are they more productive? It’s a skill, just like anything else. I remember struggling in Organic Chemistry and telling my friend Davis, "I’ll never be good at this." Of course, if we keep telling ourselves something isn’t possible, we’re right.

Mindset and Growth

An observation I’ve made is that people with a growth mindset, even those with extraordinary numbers, often rate themselves lower in terms of potential. They'll say they're a 5 or 6, while those who think they have it all figured out rate themselves much higher. I’ve been guilty of thinking I’m better trained than 99% of people because of how many books, seminars, and coaches I’ve experienced. But that mindset can prevent you from learning from everyone you meet.

I’ll continue sharing my journey as the Head of Business Development at Untap Your Sales Potential, where it’s been a privilege to help others double and even triple their income by learning from those who’ve done it before and who come from a heart of service.

I know this article may be confronting for some people. My intention is to practice challenging others—a skill that doesn't come naturally to me. Like and share this if you found this to be valuable. If you think anyone else in your life would gain value from these topics, send them over this article. Thank you to the 2138 subscribers. I love how this community is growing every week.
