5 reasons candidates should work with a recruitment agency during their job search

There’s no denying that searching for a new job can be tough. There’s the endless scrolling through job adverts, the all-important updating of your CV, and dreaded application forms to fill in. Then, if you do secure an interview, you’ll likely contend with nerves and self-doubt ahead of the big day, especially if you’ve not faced a panel in a while.

In short, embarking on a job search can be laborious, and a recent article from Business Insider suggests it may have become even more difficult over the last few years, with job seekers taking to social media to share their experiences. Some talk of lengthy hiring processes, with candidates taking on multiple interviews and tests in a bid to prove themselves worthy, while others revealed that they’d waited months to hear back from prospective employers.

So, why set out on a job search alone? Partner with a recruitment agency and take the pressure off! A recruitment consultant can essentially be the ‘middle man’, communicating directly to the hiring manager and ensuring you are kept up to date on the progress of your application. They can also support with those all-important negotiations if you do secure a job offer.

If you are a candidate who is considering partnering with a recruitment agency, here are 5 reasons you should go for it!

1) Recruitment agencies have access to hidden job markets

Recruitment agencies often partner with businesses on exclusive job openings that are not advertised elsewhere. If you’re struggling to find the right role for you, chances are a recruiter will have something up their sleeve. Recruitment consultants are very well connected and, even if they don't have a suitable role for you at that moment in time, they’ll likely have contacts at relevant companies and can bear you in mind when those companies are hiring again.

2) Recruiters know recruitment – they are experts!

As we said, the recruitment process can be daunting. But consultants know the industry inside out and can support you every step of the way. From CV writing advice and interview tips, to salary insights and support with aligning your skills to the right type of role, a recruitment consultant is best placed to help you secure your dream role.

3) Partnering with a recruitment agency can save you time

It can be difficult balancing working full time with applying for roles, responding to call backs and preparing for interviews. Take the pressure off by working with a recruitment agency. Following an initial conversation and sight of your CV, a recruitment consultant can source suitable roles for you, saving you time trawling through job sites. They can also manage communication between you and the prospective employer, which can be invaluable if you are juggling job hunting with a busy work and personal life.

4) Recruiters can support you with any negotiations

Maybe you’d like more than the advertised salary, or you need flexibility around working hours. A consultant can discuss this with the hiring team and help you achieve a package that works for you. We all know these conversations can be awkward, especially if you want to make a good first impression, but recruitment consultants can help you manage these discussions and provide a solution that works for everyone.

5) Recruitment agencies can support your career development

Whilst the article highlights the benefits of partnering with a recruitment agency, it doesn't help when said recruitment agency fails to communicate or update candidates on the recruitment progress.
