5G Could Cut Cords and Create Competition for the Duopoly and Cable Both

My latest Tubefilter column looks at 5G, the next-gen mobile technology that could cut the cords that have given the Duopoly and cable TV providers the ability to extract plenty of rents on your content.

A few more options, even if they're big telcos with the cash and customers to invest in 5G devices, might make for a little price competition and perhaps some less expensive ways to distribute content. It's way too early for publishers to celebrate, but they sure should be investigating what it means to have extremely high-bandwidth mobile devices in lots of places you're not used to seeing them.
