Am I tough enough?

Am I tough enough?

Happy Monday, dear reader

My apologies for its delayed arrival today. To be completely transparent, I had a rather eventful day yesterday, and my body was in desperate need of some rest. While I usually refrain from using the "I needed sleep" excuse, if you happened to catch my recent video on Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok, part of my ongoing "The Way I Am Challenge" series throughout October in honor of my latest single, you'll understand precisely why I'm running a bit behind my usual pace today.

The cause of my delay? Well, my two friends and I tackled the Tough Mudder 10K obstacle race yesterday. For those not familiar with Tough Mudder, it's a challenging 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) mud run, sprinkled with approximately 20 formidable obstacles to keep things exciting. These obstacles ranged from slithering beneath weighted netting up a muddy hill, plunging into ice-cold waters, climbing ropes, navigating electric wire zones (I may have opted out of that one), and much more. It was a truly intense experience.

But you know what? I absolutely loved every moment of it.

Full disclosure, I was the Tough Mudder ambassador back in 2014 when it first arrived in New Zealand, nearly a decade ago. Nevertheless, as I forged through the mud, hills, and laughter with these remarkable women by my side, I couldn't help but reflect on how such races are metaphors for life. The experience left me with five valuable life lessons that I'm eager to share with you today:

  • Growth happens on the other side of discomfort.
  • Courage isn't demonstrated when times are easy.
  • Every trial that we face head on, and - at minimum - attempt to conquer - helps us to get stronger, and more resilient.
  • Teamwork is everything.
  • We are much braver than we think.

Of course, you don't have to do a 10K mud run obstacle race to learn these life lessons... in fact, I've been focusing on turning lessons into musical blessings for years. I talk about some of those life lessons in my latest TEDx Talk.

Song Lyric of the Day: Together We Rise

"Let's talk about choosing oblivion

Forget what it means to be human

Let's hang around and really feel

Let’s open up to the silence

There’s beauty in our small existence

Let's hang around and really feel"

If you've been following me for a while, you'll recognize this as a song that I released in August of 2020 called "Slow Motion".

But, of course, there's a story behind this song. Here's a quick preview of the official video, but if you want to know more about the meaning behind the track, I invite you to check out this post here giving you a little more info!

Word of the Week:

Voracity [n]: an eagerness or enthusiasm for something, or to an intense desire to eat or consume something.

This particular word strikes home for me because, I don't know about you, but I'm not someone who does things in halves. I go ALL IN when it comes to my career, my goals, and even ridiculously challenging events like "Tough Mudder". It's all about mindset, and the energy you give to that mindset.

What are you showing voracity for this week?

Catch me this Week!

And that's it from me for today!

When you're ready, here are the three main ways we can work together:

  • One on one coaching - helping you rewrite your perceptions of yourself, and the way the world perceives you: one powerful song at a time even if you've never written a song before. Perfect for those of you who are interested in unconventional coaching.
  • Commissioned song - harnessing your brand, business or organization in one powerful anthem that can be used for teambuilding and rapport, brand-building, and advertising. Perfect for companies wanting to enhance or improve workplace culture, and are mission, vision, and purpose oriented.
  • Edutainment + workshopping - using keynote speaking and music together to elevate your business, organization or event. Perfect for event planners and coordinators who are looking for something impactful for their next retreat, conference, or training day.

Have an amazing day on purpose!
