The best way to communicate

The best way to communicate

The holiday sparkle has officially worn off but that means I'm back to my regular content consumption (albeit with ratty wire headphones because I still haven't ordered a new pair of AirPods.)

Coming at you today with a read and two podcast recommendations - one for work, one that is definitely not at all work-related but I was hooked, and everyone I have recommended it to has been too🪝

So without further ado, here's some interesting content to make your commute/dog walk /downtime a little bit more enjoyable.

 🎧 What I'm listening to; Stanford’s BJ Fogg on Behavior Change and How to Listen Better at Work

I really enjoyed this podcast from Great Place to Work - it's short, but it covers the importance of listening and the specific behaviors that you need to turn into habits to become a good listener. As a coach of an amazing team, I feel like this is something I am constantly aspiring to but don't always get it right.

The podcast also covers senior stakeholder engagement and this quote promoted me to think about how I communicate;

The best way to persuade is a combination of narrative and data.

I lean heavily into the narrative naturally (this should be obvious, given you are reading my random thoughts!) and one thing I'm committing to as part of my growth is the use of data to drive decision-making.

📚 What I'm reading; Understanding AI in HR by The Josh Bersin Company

I've been picking my way through this to try and understand AI (particularly in HR) more deeply. It's really interesting but it's a page at a time kinda read, going back and rereading and thinking about how it impacts the tools, systems and processes you use.

🎧 What I'm also listening to; Scamanda

I don't know where to begin with this podcast. The levels of deception are unbelievable...

What have you listened to recently that you enjoyed?

hey Charlotte Anderson - I picked up a couple of books on AI/Gen AI, I like the one by Flynn Coleman (Human Algorithm); being a human rights attorney + UN worker + social innovator, since she brings a very complete perspective without which we can lose the wider context.
