The not-so-linear path
As a full-time working mum with two young kids, I don't have enough on my plate so I thought I'd start a bi-weekly newsletter sharing some of my favourite things that I've read, listened to, watched...
As an avid consumer of content in any form, I'd love to use this newsletter as a way to share perspectives, inspire thinking, and spark ideas.
So, without further ado.
🎧 What I'm listening to: Our Film Critic on Why He's Done with the Movies from The Daily.
I loved this interview with acclaimed film critic, A.O. Scott, on why he's stepping down as Chief Film Critic for the New York Times. I haven't been to the movies in years, so many of his observations resonated with me, but what I loved more about it was the reminder that careers aren't linear. You don't reach the (proverbial) top of the mountain and think "OK, I'm done", because you are changing and the world around you is changing... That makes me so excited about work - I don't know where I'll be in ten or twenty years time or what the world will look like, and that in itself leads to opportunities unknown or undiscovered.
Side note, I also loved the memo from Sam Sifton announcing the role change.

📚 What I'm reading: Performance through people from McKinsey.
"A dual focus on developing people and managing them well gives a select group of companies a long-term performance edge." This is the type of report that gets my wheels spinning - particularly the below graph that highlights the prioritisation of organisational elements. It seems so simple, but how you bring this to life... not so!
What's captured your attention this week? What are you reading, watching, or listening to? I'd love to know.

Digital Marketing
1yHi Charlotte, love your idea, will you allow others like me to add stories about what is relevant at the moment in digital marketing? Even have many sporting stories of 30yrs of activity in the arena 😁 that can be written to please the Cricket and football followers, back page news, and make your newsletter a thing to forward to at printing. Lol
