A Better Way to Start the Day
What’s the first thing you do when you wake up? Do you reach for your phone to check for messages and the latest offerings on social media? Our smartphones have become a permanent feature of our lives, an electronic extension of our bodies like an extra, indispensable limb. But I’d like to invite you to try something different. Don’t panic! I’m not suggesting that you abandon your precious phone - though a daily break from its intrusive influence would be extremely beneficial for your health and your wellbeing. I’m inviting you to take a moment before you jump or roll out of bed to smile and tell yourself that it’s going to be a fantastic day. Repeat your new mantra a dozen times if you like but notice how the message affects you. Be aware of how it makes you feel.
We’re completely accustomed to flooding our systems with negative thoughts and feelings as we consider the day ahead. Filling our hearts with doubts and fears and anxieties. But imagine how much better you’d feel if you used the same mental and emotional energy to create very positive expectations. The impact would be very beneficial for your physical wellbeing but also very helpful in terms of promoting a more resilient attitude towards whatever you might encounter. Positive expectations shape our perception. We’re less likely to feel overwhelmed when we launch each day with a heart full of optimism. We’re more likely to feel empowered and creative, more confident, ready to deal with any challenges and opportunities. All from a few moments of mindful concentration at the start of the day. It’s a fabulous habit to cultivate. A magnificent game-changer. A powerful way for you to harness your resources and use them for your highest good.
