"Beyond Algorithms: The Enduring Value of the Human Touch in an AI-Driven World"
In this era of artificial intelligence, where daily interactions with chatbots and AI have become commonplace, there remains, in my view, a compelling argument for preserving the personal touch, particularly when parting with your hard earned cash.
While AI undoubtedly brings efficiency to routine tasks such as paying the gas bill; the emotional and nuanced nature of transactions that come into play when planning travel demands the irreplaceable touch of a human connection.
Purchasing luxury items or planning significant life events like weddings or holidays, involve more than just financial considerations. These moments often carry emotional weight, requiring a level of understanding, empathy, and personalization that machines struggle to provide.
A human touch ensures that the intricacies and nuances of these transactions are fully understood, fostering trust and confidence in the decision-making process, thereby building a long term "non-transactional" relationship with the customer. Planning longer trips, or complicated flight schedules requires experience and a depth of understanding and adaptability that artificial intelligence has so far not acquired.
Humans possess the ability to interpret intricate situations, empathize with unique challenges, and devise creative solutions and it is here that the personal touch becomes invaluable. Human experts can provide tailored advice, considering the specifics of an individual’s requirements and offer solutions that go beyond the scope of pre-programmed responses.

AI is learning but could it ever replace someone who has been there, seen it and done it?
Trust is a cornerstone of any successful business transaction, especially when it involves a personal experience . While AI systems operate based on algorithms and data, humans can establish trust through genuine, personal communication, old fashioned conversation, transparency, and the ability to address concerns comprehensively. Building confidence in the decision-making process requires a personal touch that reassures individuals and cultivates long-term relationships.
And when it comes to problem resolution, this can and will get emotional. Whether it's dealing with a customer complaint, resolving a dispute, or navigating a complex issue, we should never underestimate the value of emotional intelligence that humans bring to the table, allowing them to understand and empathize with the emotional aspects of a scenario.
This emotional connection with the customer is what makes a Travel Counsellor like me, successful and is why you won’t see me being replaced by a machine anytime soon. So next time you are travel shopping on-line, having a chat with a robot, and going around in circles, ask yourself if it would be more fun having that conversation with a travel professional who gets you, knows you…. and will work with you to plan something amazing, and when you are away will be there on the MyTC App on your phone, just in case you need me….
