Billion Strong Disability News, 4th Issue 2022- LinkedIn Newsletter
Letter from Debra Ruh
Hello everyone,
First, let me thank you for subscribing to this newsletter. We would be honored if you and your networks, would join the free movement on www.Billion-Strong.org. We need everyone not only persons with disabilities. If you think the world should be inclusive for us all. We want you to join www.Billion-strong.org. We believe we are all stronger together.
Our newsletter is getting really long but we have so many wonderful things to share. I am delighted to launch the fourth issue of the LinkedIn Newsletter, "Billion Strong Global Disability Pride News," and add a new section to our newsletter entitled: ZERO PROJECT: Solutions for a World with Zero Barriers. Zero Project has changed the global conversations about disability inclusion.
I learned about their efforts years ago and have watched them highlight best practices in developing and developed nations, bring together all the global stakeholders, encourage corporations to have more impact, and create a global community that is positively changing lives for persons with disabilities and their families all over the world.
Also, I am honored to be hosted and featured on this amazing new podcast, Disability Bandwidth. It was their 8th episode. Season one of Disability Bandwidth is a show that talks with disability leaders about careers, life, and technology hosted by Nikki Nolan and Sam Proulx.
I discussed tensions around dividing up the “pie” of perceived limited resources within disability communities:
“We have such a lack, lack, lack in thinking, and poverty consciousness. It's ridiculous because there really is enough for everybody. There is. And if we all came together and supported each other, we would change the world. Not only for us but the future generations. So, I do not believe that I can compete with anybody.”
Here is a snippet from my conversation on Disability Bandwidth. Episode 8.
Regarding the latest news from me personally, I was honored recently to be recognized as an Ambassador for the Zero Project as a Global Champion for Accessibility and Disability Inclusion.

GAAD
May 19, 2022, marked the 11th Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD). A day where we both celebrated how far we have come and continue to focus on how far we have to go to improve digital accessibility and inclusion.
GAAD is an awareness day focusing on digital access and inclusion for more than 1.3-1.7 billion people living with disabilities and impairments. GAAD aims to get everyone talking, thinking, and learning about digital access and inclusion.
We can create more awareness of digital accessibility, inclusive design, and the impact their digital products may have on people with disabilities if they are not made accessible.
· We have a lot of content coming out for the celebration. I think #GAAD should be for more than one day. Accessibility is for every single day.
· No ICT should be created that is not considering human-centered design and accessibility.
· Privacy and Security are NOT nice to have in tech neither is accessibility.
If we all want to support the United Nations with its sustainable development goals #SDGs to ensure we protect our planet, all inhabitants, and all humans.
Many thanks to LinkedIn for their invaluable support.
Please subscribe to this newsletter and share it with others. Do you have any ideas, articles, news, or questions about the topics we should include in future installments?
Please share in the comments below.
Warm regards, Debra.
