Building the attitude that leads to success (part 1)
In this chapter, we are going to dive into one of the most important topics when it comes to personal success building.
Is a sound mental attitude important?! With proper mental attitude, all things turn into possibilities. Having more money, more pleasure in life, more friends, enjoy more of life, reduce tiredness, improve your family rapport, etc. everybody agrees to the fact that attitude when launching a project is the predominant factor. In other words, your attitude matters more than your aptitudes. William James, one of the forerunners of modern American psychology used to say that: the most important discovery of our generation is the fact that, we can modify our existence, by changing our attitudes.
Let us consider one the numerous aspects of attitude: optimism. An optimistic person looks a glass of water with water up to to half the height and says: it is a a half full drink. Meanwhile, a pessimistic person looks at the same glass and says: it is a half empty glass. the reason of the difference is simple: the optimistic person puts water into the glass while the pessimistic person takes it out.it is a universal truth that the person who takes away everything from the society and does not even try to service it is a pessimistic who fears that they will not get a portion. The person that does their best and adds in their contribution is an optimistic. This last person is confident because, they are personally working to figure out a solution.
You know, in the game of life, in the race to the top, difference between success and failure is generally measured in very little quantities. The difference between happiness and unhappiness is generally measured in centimeters. Achieving or missing one’s goals, being a champion or a looser, etc. yet the difference between the rewards of the winner and that of the loser is immense. That is why you commitment is important. You do not get paid any commission for an almost signed deal, no pleasure in a trip which you almost did, there is no excitement in almost doing things in the game of life. Pleasure comes from success. having the proper mental attitude usually makes the difference between failure and success.
Keep in mind the fact that a positive attitude will produce positive results for attitudes are contagious. Having a positive mental attitude is to be enthusiastic. Albert HUBBARD says: we have never achieved any great thing without enthusiasm! Enthusiasm often makes the difference. True enthusiasm is not something you put on depending on occasions. That one is a fake enthusiasm, with suspicious value. True enthusiasm is a lifestyle and not a means to impress people. It is not about being noisy or exuberant, rather, it is the outward manifestation of an internal sentiment. Several enthusiastic people are rather calm people. Whereas, each part of their body, every word of their mouth proves it all how much they love life and what is the value of life to their eyes. While some enthusiastic people are noisy. Being noisy is neither a necessity nor, a proof of enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is an attitude! Most people let circumstance control their attitude instead of using their attitude to control their circumstances. If things are all right, their attitude is good and if things go all wrong, their attitude falls in the doldrums.
Remember that you can never master all the circumstances of your life, but you can always master your attitude towards all the circumstances you face. We know that, everyone can react to peasant circumstances as a compliment or a smile. When people are kind, gentle and loving towards us, it is pleasant. And in return, we are happy to pay back by making their lives pleasant too. As you cans see, everybody can positively react to similar circumstances.
But how do you react to anger? To people who despise you? To dejection ? to an impolite and slow waitress? How are you affected by traffic that causes you to be late? To a grey and cold day? When someone unjustly abuses of you, do you react evenly? When your spouse passes their frustration on you? When you are not invited to the party of a friend? Your attitude when faced with each of these negative situations, greatly influences your happiness in life. Remember the following expression: who is affected becomes infected. Never you let anyone or anything affect you.
It is natural and human to react negatively when one feels assaulted, but by positively reacting, you improve the situation and helps both yourself and the person.
In the next part of this chapter, we are going to dig deep into the principles that will help you build a positive attitude.
