Do we know what future we are building?

Do we know what future we are building?

I am quite into innovation, but today, while reading a post about the increase of robotics’ sales, I begun to philosophize.

If the machines we create are meant to do our work, what will we do? Will we work for the machines doing their maintenance?? Will we have more free time to enjoy life? More time for looking after this world? More time to fight against each other to gain power?? Will we fall into depression as we will be not very useful?

Amazon wants to deliver with Drones, Production lines will be fully automatized, we buy more and more on line. Home vacuum cleaners clean themselves, 3D printers, etc.

Machines are gaining power and we are losing effort and becoming more comfortable.

Will the machines make of this world a better world?

Let´s the debate start

A good topic to debate on. I am curious as to the "We will have more time" part. With the mechanisation in early 20th century, Keynes famously predicted that by 2030, we will be working 15 hours a week and would live for 300 years. Considering 2030 is just 15 years away, I don't see that happening. The reason being that demand is ALWAYS being created and Humans loathe boredom. We didn't need iPhones back then, but now, iPhone in themselves is a Multi-Billion Dollar economy, employing hundreds of thousands of people. I can't see into the future, but I believe that there is got to be something that comes up and fills the human downtime created by robots.
