Do you need a personal Facebook profile and business page if you are in real estate?

Yes, and here is why! Your personal profile should be personal - I believe in the 80/20 rule that 80% of what you share on your personal profile should be things that are "personal."

In my Facebook Masterclass we dive deep into this topic and I wanted to share a sneak peek of that conversation here.

Anything "business related" to your business should be posted to your business page. Now, from time to time - you may share a post from your business page to your personal profile but think of your business page as the place to attract new clients and prospects whereas your personal profile is the place to reconnect with past clients.

Personal profile checklist:

  • Update your About section and make sure your contact info is visible to the public (i.e. email and website)
  • Don't be a secret agent!
  • Also in your About section make sure you list what brokerage you are with and your job title
  • Update your profile photo to a professional headshot or an updated photo
  • Think of your personal profile as a way to showcase who you are personally and professionally. 80% of your posts should be personal and 20% can be business.

Connect with past clients using Facebook Messenger.Think about the last few clients you have worked with. Search to see if they are on Facebook - if they are consider sending them a private message on Facebook. Here is an example: "Hi _______! I loved working with you and your family earlier this year - I would love to stay in touch on Facebook!"

Business Page checklist:

  • Check to make sure your About section and contact information is accurate
  • Get in the habit of posting 3-5 times a week. Why? Consistency builds trust!
  • You can post directly or use Facebook Business Suite and/or Meta Business Suite to schedule your posts.
  • Consider setting aside 30-60 minutes once a week to schedule some of your content.
  • The best type of content typically are videos and/or graphics but also simple yes/no questions.
  • Use a conversational tone - professional but conversational and add emojis to keep it fun.
  • Consider creating video content that answers questions you are often asked! Also, this is video content you can repurpose and post outside of Facebook.

Wondering how to get your friends from your Facebook Personal Profile to like and/or follow your Facebook Business Page? Go to your personal profile and post something like this: "Hi everyone! I am so excited to share that I am working hard to update my Facebook Business Page. I will be posting there a few times a week sharing real estate and community news and it would mean the world if you would give me a follow! Here is the link: ______________________________"
