Don’t let Christmas spoil your December sales delivery
It’s the beginning of December and I’m already fed up with hearing Mariah Carey's “All I want for Christmas”, now don’t think for one minute that you’ll hear me saying Bah Humbug, nothing could be further from the truth, I love Christmas and I love it a whole lot more once I’ve hit my own targets in December.
However, for many salespeople, December means one thing the dreaded Christmas objection, for those of you who have worked with me you’ll know that there are two types of objections that we receive, true objections and screening objections, and Christmas provides the perfect excuse to wheel out the ultimate screening objection “Call me in January”
So how do we overcome this time-honoured objection?
Understand what the real objection is
The first thing we need to understand is what the real objection is, in my experience most of the time Christmas isn’t the real excuse so we need to understand what the real excuse is and the best way to achieve this is by asking questions, or more specifically really good questions, questions that will open up the customer and more importantly get the client thinking about the real answer and providing you with the opportunity to provide a solution.
Use Christmas as a way of generating urgency
December being a shorter month actually provides you with a great opportunity to create urgency, people always think they’ve got more time than they actually have and December polarises this so use the reduced time in December to take action and make a decision, work with them and position yourself as helping them to make a decision and helping them to buy.
Turn the negative into a positive
Rather than seeing Christmas as a negative, be positive, I’ve just mentioned that you can use the lack of time to your advantage and if you have the right attitude you can positively engage with your buyers before they even get the chance to use it as an objection.

An example I like to use is “I use December as the perfect time to plan for the year ahead, to explore things I don’t have time for throughout the year and make decisions on projects I have put on the back burner so I thought this might be the perfect time for us to discuss this now”
Give these a try, embrace December, enjoy it and make it a great end to the year
