Emotions As Our Guidance System

Emotions As Our Guidance System

Emotions have a bad rep

“You are being too emotional!”

“You have to hide your emotions!”

“Emotions are a sign of weakness”

“Suck it up”

“There is no space for emotions at work”

How many of us have heard some or all of these statements and advice regarding emotions?

I learned from a young age to repress my emotions – especially the “negative ones”

When I was crying as a young girl, I was told to “swallow my tears” (which made more sense in Portuguese) but you get the idea … I was told to stop crying

When I was angry as a young girl, I was either yelled at or sent to my room as punishment

A lifetime of repressing or shoving down my so-called negative emotions basically meant I became a pressure cooker ready to explode at any second like the Anger guy from Inside Out

After years of inner work, I have learned that suppressing emotions may actually be one of the worst things we can do when it comes to healing and inner growth

When we suppress the emotions, it may seem like we did a good job “managing it” in the near term but the truth is that emotion doesn’t really go away… it simply gets stuck within ourselves

And of course, the more that we do this, the more it accumulates… back to the pressure cooker analogy

Early on with my inner work, I would get very uncomfortable when negative emotions would rise…

Firstly, I had learned about the power of our thoughts so I was concerned that allowing myself to feel anger, fear or sadness would mean that I was saying yes to creating that reality

Secondly, I was honestly afraid about what could happen if I truly let myself go to the depths of my shadow, to truly see and feel ALLLLLL these negative emotions that I had been avoiding and suppressing my whole life

I think it was survival fear… what if I got overtaken by all these emotions? Would these emotions be so much bigger than me that I would lose myself?

Everything changed when I learned about Tapping or Emotional Freedom Technique three years ago…

Tapping helps us quickly, safely and effectively process, transform and heal negative emotions and also deeply seated unresolved issues and wounds that we have been avoiding but are likely running our lives

If you are curious to learn more, I would invite you to check out The Tapping Solution… they have an App, website, books and a ton of free content on YouTube so you can give this a try

Tapping has been one of the most transformative tools that I have learned because it has also empowered me to face all the shadows within me knowing that I am bigger than any emotion or wound that may be hidden within me … and that by going deep within to heal that is how I can actually transform my life

When I first learned, I kind of became obsessed… I was tapping all the time on all sorts of issues

Thanks to this I now see my emotions as my most powerful guidance system

When I feel triggered with stress, anxiety, fear, anger or sadness, I know that these emotions are simply showing me what’s within me that I can heal and shift

By using my Emotional Guidance System alongside Tapping, I have been able to deeply heal and ultimately reprogram the deeply seated limiting beliefs in my subconscious mind that I didn’t know were running the show.

So now when I get really triggered emotionally, I welcome my emotions with so much compassion, gratitude and even a bit of excitement because I know they can guide me to the next level of inner work so I can truly break through from the inside out

If you give Tapping a try, please keep me posted as I am always blown away by how transformative it can be for people as it has been for me

With so much love and light, Tatiana
