The End In Sight
This was one of the most challenging capture situations I have ever had to manage. Shooting directly into the setting sun, I was trying to capture riders travelling at 50/60 kph up a long perspective, while being jostled by other photogs in the press pen. The circumstances were deeply unfavourable, but trusting in the quality of the mechanics and optics of my D850, I maxed out the shooting solution as follows: very high ISO and high speed, narrow aperture, shutter priority and continuous shooting. The straight out-of-the-camera result was an unusable, colour-tinted mess.
Honour was only salvaged by conversion to black and white. While I lost the team identification by colour, I believe that I gained a different perspective instead, given the respect for tradition inspired by this iconic event.
