Gold Medals and Gold Shirts
What do Olympic athletes and startup founders have in common?
Perseverance, grit, ambition, and an unwavering spirit that defies all odds.
These extraordinary qualities were on full display when Bronte Campbell , Cofounder of Earthletica Activewear (Techstars Tech Central Sydney powered by the NSW Government 2024), won Olympic gold in the Women's 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay for Australia! Congratulations, Bronte!
These same qualities also shone brightly during our annual Gold Shirt ceremony, where we celebrated an extraordinary group of Techstars founders. The event honored 33 portfolio companies that achieved exits in 2023!
Congratulations to these incredible founders who embody relentless drive that inspires us all to dream bigger and reach higher.

3moThis post by Salem Bagami is an excellent example of a good investor-innovator relationship - https://bit.ly/47bueHm The Investors: Look at how long Mike Markkula kept his Apple shares: "While exact details on how long he held all of his Apple shares aren't publicly detailed, it is known that he continued to be a shareholder until at least the mid-1990s. After he departs from the board, it’s unclear when or if he fully divested his Apple holdings, but he likely retained shares for at least two decades after his initial investment." Here is how long Venrock held onto their Apple shares: Given that Apple went public in 1980, it's likely that Venrock, like many early investors, began to sell some of its shares during or shortly after the IPO. However, depending on market conditions and strategic decisions, the firm may have retained some shares for years following the IPO. It's common for VCs to liquidate shares over time rather than all at once. The Innovators: Steven Jobs was actively involved in Apple from 1976-1985 and again from 1997-2011, for a total of roughly 24 years. Steve Wozniak was actively involved with Apple for about 10 years, though his role changed significantly during that time. Matthew Tillman
