Expanding Possibilities.
- How do we move from reshuffling chairs on the titanic to imagining new generative boats that work for all?
- To what extent do we allow ourselves to be creative, to slow down, to reconnect, to wonder?
- Just look at how easy it has been to give way our remembered agency, back to The Matrix, after the collective mediation that was COVID 3 years ago
Every bit of science, data, technology and humanity is pointing towards the same clarification:
- Our systems and planet is literally on fire, yet we continue BAU (business as usual) as if it will sort itself out
The last time I checked, growing market share or acquiring another company is not helping stem biodiversity loss or reducing the pressure on communities being moved off of their lands.
Social and environmental injustices are the fabric of work and society all over the world and at a time when global (Western) engagement statistics remain awful at best with less than 1 in 4 people engaged:
Conditioned and disembodied, and I know first hand how this feels after suppressing emotion and feeling for over 25 years after persistently being bullied for two years aged 12/13.
This also assumes that people are allowing themselves to feel at all 'below the neck.'

The Opportunity - Expanding Possibility
One of the biggest and most pressing actions we can take, I feel, is to reconnect head, heart and gut in integration.
To reconnect these three elements is to be and feel whole, to drop the masks, to embrace true complexity and to embrace discomfort as part of growth and community building.
This is not just about unleashing potential, although this will happen exponentially, this is about centering the communities most harmed by our Western ways and designing local communities, workplaces and societies that are healthy and generative and reduce harm by design.
Systems that leave and even send back resources to the places which have been ravaged and continue to be ravaged to underpin growth at literally at all costs in the West.
This is nothing new, there are many scholars, activists and leaders, old and current, doing this work, but this post is a specific invitation to my sector and network in #chemicals #energy #pharma #supplychain #manufacturing #food etc
We have not chosen to perpetuate the situation that has been handed down to us over generations, but RIGHT NOW we have an opportunity to reduce the harm and to at least get creative about ways to rebuild in ways that are unfathomable today.
This is well beyond ESG, sustainability and diversity quotas. They are chairs being reshuffled on the titanic as it goes down.
We have the ability, imagination and agency, but do we have the will?

The Work
It can feel like such a huge jump.
We need to move from patterns of feeling comfortable, protecting what we have, winning at all costs, accumulating as an (external) sense of validation and worth.
Towards co-creation, collective re-imagination, de-centering, letting go and let's be honest, inner and outer healing.
To allow ourselves to FEEL is an act of resistance in todays' Western culture.
This is an especially big jump for male leaders within the extractive industries and that is why I am focusing on reaching EXACTLY this demographic of human.
We are not broken.
No-one needs fixing.
However, I do see a lot of fear, disembodiment and confusion and that is all ok.
How we slow down, sense into, review and let go of much of that is key.
That IS the work.

I would assert that our climate and species survival, I truly believe, depends on it.
