Freelancing for Growth: Lessons for Aspiring Solopreneurs

Freelancing for Growth: Lessons for Aspiring Solopreneurs

"My freelancing career has turned me into a solopreneur."

This journey to date taught me various aspects of business.

What major learnings I learned👇

Learn Marketing and Sales

I was a tech student. I never thought I would learn marketing. But as soon as I progressed to the path of freelancing, I realized that learning marketing and sales is important.

Learn the basic principles, craft your value proposition, and start promoting your services today. Take help from free resources!

Learn Branding

My upbringing happened ordinarily. Neither my parents nor other family members were aware of big brands. Even, I was not aware of it. Although, we know popular TV advertisements but never pay attention to how they play a critical role in business life. That’s why I also did not pay attention. But, when I started my LinkedIn journey and started following people who are doing great work, then I understood the importance of branding.

Define your niche, find your voice, and share your story, whether on social media or professional platforms.

Learn Networking

In my early years of working from home, I took networking causally. When I found my mentor on LinkedIn, I learned that your network is your net worth. Your business’s success is also connected to the network.

Connect with like-minded individuals, engage in online communities, and attend relevant events. Invest in building your network from day one.

Learn Communication

I had a myth that only interacting in English is the best communication. I broke this myth by becoming a powerful communicator and sharing my message in my native language. Because language is only a medium to convey your message.

Sharpen your communication skills in your native language, whether through writing, public speaking, or storytelling. Your message will resonate better with your target audience.

Learn Negotiation

I failed to crack many deals because I was not knowing about the business. I learned with clients and people with whom I worked and still working.

Before pitching, study your potential clients, identify their needs, and tailor your offerings accordingly. This personalized approach will land you more deals.

Learn Writing

I started writing to start work from home but soon I embraced it as my passion too. The development of the digital world helped me to realise that learning writing is a plus point for starting my business and establishing my brand. Writing strengthens your critical thinking, hones your message, and establishes your expertise.

Create content on platforms like Medium or LinkedIn to build your brand and attract clients.

Learn Authority

I deactivated one social media but starting another social media taught me that it is essential to showcase your expertise and experience for your business.

Share your expertise, showcase your projects, and engage with your community. Use social media strategically to attract clients and build trust.

Final Words

Moving towards the path of solopreneurship is your growth in your personal and professional life.

I took some time to understand that learning some skills in the early days of business establishments is crucial.

But, you don’t take much time to think about upskilling and choosing specific areas to upskill;

From now on, decide yourself upskill yourself in these areas and extract 30 minutes daily for these:

  • Persuasion: Master the art of pitching your ideas and products.
  • Storytelling: Captivate your audience with compelling narratives.
  • Writing: Express your thoughts clearly and concisely.
  • Authority: Build a strong personal brand that commands respect.
  • Negotiation: Secure favorable deals with confidence.
  • Networking: Cultivate a robust network of valuable connections.
  • Communication: Deliver your message with clarity and impact.

Remember, the solopreneur journey is a continuous learning curve. Embrace the challenges, learn from your mistakes, and keep upskilling. Your dedication will pave the way for a fulfilling and successful solopreneur journey.
