That means spending a lot more than the average 15 minutes spent in resume customization and going beyond the published job description that's written for employer legal protection. The real job description (usually more than 50% different than the published job description) is supplied by the hiring managers and describes their current needs.
• Getting Your Resume Past Hiring Managers: Hiring managers are looking for 3 things on your resume - 1) Do you understand and have you solved my current problems (not in the published job description)? 2) Do you have a strong track record of improving performance of teams, departments, companies? 3) Can I trust you? Most resumes don't communicate any of these three things, but only communicate that you're an average, qualified candidate.

In 2024, employers expect to see 5-10 qualified candidates competing for each interview spot, so you've got to do a lot more than just show you're qualified (which equals average). The problem is that few candidates know how to show any more than just being qualified.
