Why You Think Your Resume Is ATS Compliant, But It's Really Not

Many job seekers struggle because their ATS compliant resume still isn't getting past Applicant Tracking Systems.

There are some common reasons why your resume is getting blocked by ATSs, even if you paid someone to write an ATS compliant resume for you.

Here are a few common reasons you think that your ATS compliant resume really isn't:

• Contains Unfriendly Formatting To Some ATSs: There are hundreds of ATSs, each with dozens of versions and individual quirks in how they treat resumes. Most professional resume writers, outplacement and career coaches use formatting to better brand their own work and make it look unique to job seekers. This formatting often conflicts with many common ATSs.
• File Format Isn't Readable By An ATS: Some of the most common file formats aren't natively readable by many ATSs, requiring translation to a file format the ATS can read. This translation causes delays and translation errors (one common one is random spacing that looks like typos) that can cause you to lose opportunities.
• Not Investing Enough Time In Resume Customization: ATSs reward job seekers who heavily customize their resume for each individual job, but penalize candidates who don't customize enough. It's because ATSs don't recognize synonyms and common meanings, only exact word and phrase matches.

These are some easy problems to overcome, but most career resources don't focus on this. Most just tell you to use an AI/ word cloud matching tool and small tweaks of your resume ... which rarely works well to make your resume ATS friendly.
