Gulp! Did We Just Really Do This?

Gulp! Did We Just Really Do This?

It was a BIG day in our household last week. We wrote our last college tuition check for our two kids.

Wahoo! Drum roll, and let’s pop the champagne cork!

If you told me five years ago, this day would ever come, I’d look at you in bewilderment.

From Dream to Reality

It’s a fantastic feeling to reach lofty goals. But achieving these goals doesn’t just happen by luck.

At first, you’re not sure how to get started. You may seek advice from friends until you quickly realize they’re as clueless as you are.

If you’re smart, you engage an expert, which we did, to help you create a plan to achieve your goals. You must be disciplined and follow through on this plan while adjusting to environmental changes.

Getting Started

The hardest part of achieving a goal is taking the first step for many. With all the noise going on around us, it’s easy to get distracted and feel overwhelmed.

Some people are fearful of making a mistake, so they do nothing, while others repeatedly keep making the same mistake.

I see this frequently happen at companies with aggressive hiring goals. Some of the tactics used in the past could pull in a candidate now and again. However, an anemic approach to hiring won’t get you the talent you need to meet your goals.

The competition for talent is insanely competitive. And to make matters worse, this week, Walmart announced plans to hire 50,000 workers in Q1.

Many of you may have quickly glanced over this headline and ignored it since you’re not in retail. You might want to go back and read the full article.

These hires are not solely retail associates. Walmart is opening tech centers in Toronto and Atlanta and is aggressively adding staff to their supply chain and marketing departments.

A Customized Approach to Talent

Most companies spend a lot of time and resources updating their sales plans annually, yet few put much effort into creating a robust talent plan.

That’s crazy, considering almost every company needs people to remain in business and meet their sales objectives.

A talent plan written before the pandemic isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on. That’s because the entire hiring landscape has changed over the past two years.

You may be thinking that you don’t have the time or the resources to get this done.

The good news is that it only takes one day to create an Evergreen Talent Plan®, which means you can start implementing your plan on Day Two.

How cool is that?

Imagine finally being able to end your workday on time because you’re finally fully staffed. Or you are no longer worrying that critical personnel may give notice.

I know some of you are DIY people and may wish to create a talent plan on your own. My book, Evergreen Talent will help guide you through this process.

Before going this route, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Why if I could have done this on my own, haven’t I?
  • Is this something I’m interested in doing, or would I rather partner with someone who can get this done quickly and correctly?
  • Am I at risk of losing key personnel while trying to figure this out?

Experts predict that the labor shortage is not going away any time soon. Now’s the time to up your game and have a comprehensive plan to secure the talent needed to keep your business flourishing.
