Here's Why You Need To Always Shoot Your Shot

Here's Why You Need To Always Shoot Your Shot

Why you need to ‘shoot your shot’….

I know, I know…another sports metaphor, but bear with me here…cuz if you’re a making the transition to a new (and perhaps scary) industry that offers you an upgrade…you need to hear this!

A couple of years ago I got this feeling I needed to start solving bigger problems for bigger companies. Not that I don’t love my entrepreneurs and SMBS, it’s just I had solutions that were needed at a bigger level.

I had no idea how I was going to get in front of some of these CEOs, or how I was going to make that transition, or the steps I needed to take, or if I needed a rebrand…(and there were a lot more things that I over-thought beyond that).

I eventually got sick of listening to the noise in my head and just made a list of companies and brands I knew needed my help.

That was Step 1…

Once I had my pretty list I started to go through and create a second list of those company and brands competitors and did a quick analysis – all right within an excel.

That was Step 2…

Once I had my competitive list done, I created another column in that excel with all the ways I could help the companies and brands I wanted to work with be more competitive, and differentiate compared to those competitors.

That was Step 3…

And then, then I stopped. I let the fear take over me for a few weeks and tucked that list away somewhere in my GDrive (somewhere that was difficult to find).

Eventually I came back to that list, but I only did it when this happened.

When a troll came into my feed and told me I couldn’t do something.

And let me tell you about trolls:

– they can either be the thing that has you succumb to the darkness

– or they can be the thing that gives you a nice kick in the pants towards the light.

I found that list pretty fast and started to put together my action plan. It involved:

1) Connecting with thought leaders, CEOs, brand founders, celebrities, etc. on social

2) Crafting well-thought out pitches and sending them

3) Researching possible backdoor methods to find my way in.

And I found my way in.

I've connected with these people.

I’ve gotten to work with some of those very companies and brands on my list, and I’ve even found backdoor methods that work exceptionally well time and time again.

Wayne Gretzky says it best, “You miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take.”

So take the dang shot.

Show yourself and the world what you’re made of and let the trolls talk and accelerate you to your next level.

Even if you miss, you have everything you need to line up and take the shot again…and again…and again.

And one day, you’ll make that shot.
