Home Safe Every Day: Fostering a Safety Culture from Day One

At Alamos Gold, we prioritize creating a safe and healthy working environment for all employees and contractors. Our commitment to safety is deeply embedded in our corporate culture, emphasizing personal well-being and injury prevention.

Ensuring employees are set up for success from day one is paramount. Our flagship Home Safe Every Day safety leadership program is central to our approach. This training program helps instill a strong safety mindset among employees and contractors, and empowers them to lead by example.

John McCluskey , President and CEO of Alamos Gold, underscores the importance of this program: "Each day, when we come to work, we do so with the expectation that our sites are safe. This is the spirit that gives meaning to Home Safe Every Day."

When new recruits join one of our operations, regardless of position, they must complete mandatory induction and health and safety training as a condition to enter and work at our sites. They are also required to participate in annual refresher training.

Sites provide all employees with the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from day one, as explained by Carly Gallant, CHRL Candidate , Island Gold’s Human Resource Generalist: “We supply coveralls, high visibility stickers or vests, hard hats, safety glasses, and steel toe boots to ensure our staff is adequately equipped when they arrive on site.”

In addition to our safety training, our site departments offer job-specific training that equips employees with the knowledge needed to ensure they are capable and qualified to perform their roles. Dan Demers , Health and Safety Superintendent at Young-Davidson, explains, "Every new hire goes through our basic surface or general induction. Depending on their expertise, they also receive a site-specific induction for that area."

Across our operations, we maintain a strong safety culture in which everyone is continually reminded of the importance of keeping themselves and their colleagues healthy and injury-free. "Safety is a core value for Alamos Gold,” says Colin Webster , Vice President of Sustainability and External Affairs. “We believe that by investing in comprehensive training, promoting a culture of safety leadership, and actively involving our workforce, we can achieve our vision of Home Safe Every Day.”
