How Leaders Can Know Their Staff is Burned Out and What to Do About It

How Leaders Can Know Their Staff is Burned Out and What to Do About It

Today my husband and I went to an energy worker.

For those of you unfamiliar with this work, stay with me. It's done by someone who can sense what's going on inside your body without actually poking the inside. It's done through something called muscle testing.

The amazing thing about this form of therapy is that you get instant results and you don't really have to do anything invasive like draw blood or take medication.

Some of the stuff this guy was releasing was physical, but whenever he'd get stuck, it turned out there was a "trapped emotion."

It's amazing how we store emotions in our body for years! You probably don't even realize how much you're carrying around but it's what is blocking your organs from fully functioning.

If you're subscribed to this newsletter, it's probably because you recognize how stressful your life can be. Imagine all those emotions inside of you. When you don't have a good way to cope, you're screwed!

And that's what we're talking about this week. Specifically, the tendency to turn to alcohol to deal with negative emotions.

So whether you're looking for a solution for your own burnout or you're a leader wanting to better understand what to look out for in your team, I've got you covered.

If you haven’t been living under a rock, you probably have heard of Emotional Intelligence (EQ). It’s the skill that is known to be more important than IQ in the workplace because it involves being aware of yourself and others and thereby being able to manage your emotions and relationships. Well, when it comes to burnout in the workplace, it’s not unlike EQ.

Burnout statistics have been through the roof for years. This is nothing new. But that doesn’t mean there’s nothing that can be done about it. In fact, the more you know, the more you can intervene and prevent it. Trouble is, leaders don’t always know what to look for or what to do once they find it.

In this week's article, we’ll uncover the signs of burnout you need to pay attention to in your staff as well as effective strategies to address and even prevent burnout from taking place.

When my clients want to justify their drinking, they'll say, "I just want to take the edge off" or "I need something to help me unwind." Truth be told, we probably are too tightly wound up and many of us have a hard time disconnecting mentally from work, so it's understandable that we'd reach for a substance to shift our mood, help slow us down, and get us to relax.

The trouble is, alcohol is a depressant and it has a slew of negative side effects. I recently heard from a scientist that if you consume more than two drinks per week, you indeed have an alcohol problem. Most people think if they have two drinks per night, they're fine.

So there's a lot we probably don't understand yet. But what is clear is that there are alternatives to help us unwind and we have to find more effective ways to cope with stress. Here's Samantha Perkins for more on the subject.

Thanks for sharing these insights and promoting energy work as an alternative to other less healthy ways of dealing with stress. It's so important that we get more present rather than numb out.

Leaders can feel helpless to stop or help burnout. I love that there are some real solutions to help prevent it and help once discovered.
