How my Future Self Led Me to a Book Deal

How my Future Self Led Me to a Book Deal

A Note From Brooke

Discovering my route to a book deal was far from traditional, and sharing this journey is important because it showcases the value of an open mindset — a key element I explore through the GEMS framework in my forthcoming book. Today, let's talk about the role of 'Mindset.'

Here's an excerpt from my book: “Visualize your mindset as a complex LEGO structure, where each block represents a belief, an experience, a lesson learned. Just as we meticulously construct a LEGO model, we must thoughtfully assemble our mindset to stand robust against doubts and adversities.”

Writing has always been my creative haven, and during a quiet moment in the pandemic, a guided meditation unexpectedly confirmed my destiny as an author. In a visualization, I was greeted by my future self in a home echoing my actual 1860s farmhouse, a place warm with the scent of baking bread and lined with books penned by future me. Amidst this tranquil setting, my future self offered a simple but profound counsel: “Trust yourself and know that you have value to share with the world.”

Inspired, I journaled a commitment: to publish a book before my 40th birthday. Like adding another block to the LEGO structure of my mindset, this promise fortified my resolve. It kept my eyes open to the unusual opportunities that led to the book deal I now celebrate with you.

Next week, I’ll add another block to this story, offering you a glimpse into the next phase of my journey. Stay tuned.

Let’s meet the women building the future!

I want to introduce you to the “feature builders” series I am going to do with women who are building the future right now. I hope that you are inspired to start building or keep building as you listen to these over the next few weeks. Today I am sharing the episode I did with Ashima Sharma, the founder of Dreami, a software company that harnesses the power of technology to break down the barriers to equitable careers. Take a listen below!
