How Will You Take Care Of Yourself In The New Year 2020?

2019 is drawing to a close, you may have had a fantastic year, or you may have had a year full of challenges, but what do you have planned for 2020?

 How do you plan to truly take care of yourself in the New Year?

 In the last year, you have probably spend a lot of time working on your business and looking after everyone else and barely spent any time feeding your own spirit, mind and body.

 How much time do you really devote to yourself?

 How much time do you devote to your well-being? It’s something that we are all guilty of – putting everything and everyone else first and not realizing the toll it’s taking on ourselves until we are completely exhausted and overwhelmed.

 Look at this New Year as a fresh opportunity to spend some time on reflection. Spend some time, doing a bit of soul-searching. It’s time to look within yourself, and be honest about what you see, whether it’s in your personal life or on the career front. This isn’t about setting goals or making resolutions. This is about committing to taking care of yourself.

 New Year, New You

Do you feel guilty whenever you spend time on yourself, whether it is reading a book, having your hair done, watching a film or just putting yourself first?

Do you feel that if you are sitting down doing nothing, or simply relaxing that you are somehow at fault and that you should feel guilty?

Are you able to take time for yourself without feeling guilty?

Have you made a list of things that you will actually prioritise for yourself going in to 2020?

 Do you regularly spend time with your family or friends, simply being present by your presence, rather than constantly checking emails, your phone, your Social Media?

Do you and your partner or family ever sit down and talk without any distraction and have a cuddle or as we say in Wales ‘cwtch’?

 This is not about making ‘New Year’s’ resolutions that make you feel guilty or that you are a failure and need to improve to become successful, rather more about letting go of those feelings of inadequacy or failure and allowing yourself to care for yourself sometimes, rather than feeling guilty when you do.

 I hope that some of the following examples will give you some ideas how to take care of yourself and that they may enable you to go forward into 2020 with a new sense of peace and happiness.

 Ways To Take Care of Yourself

  •  Instead of focusing on your past failures, move on and shift your focus to new opportunities.
  • Plan to do something that challenges you. It can be to do with your career or in your personal life and don’t worry about the time or the cost.
  • Spend time meditating and less time living in noise.
  • Practice more hobbies and activities that you enjoy.
  • Spend less time on activities that you’re expected by others to do and do what you really want to do.
  • Make time to sit down reading a good book.
  • Spend time outside in nature and less time inside.
  • Schedule time for your partner, family, and friends, where you are not distracted by t.v., phones, Social Media or other ‘white noise’.

 No one can know what challenges and boulders 2020 will bring, but what you can know is how to be the strongest and best version of yourself, so that you can meet anything that is thrown at you and rise to the challenge. Don’t look back on the New Year with regret and uncertainty, look forward with a positive attitude and confidence and you will find that when life throws ‘curve balls’ at you, you can face them and learn to navigate the undulating road of life that is in front of us all.
